Recent windstorms in the midst of cold temperatures created icy sheets and icicles on display both on the North and South shores of Lake Superior. Marcy Bessolo Hermanson was out and about to capture some of the icy beauty. We start with the first four photos on the North shore of Superior, just before Eagle River on the 5 Mile Point Road, where the icy coatings look to be quite thick. I found it interesting, especially in the first two shots, that the icicles were only on the tree branches and barely any was covering the rocks underneath.

The bottom two photos were snapped on the South shore near Brunette Park. Here the ice doesn’t seem to be quite as thick as the frozen waves on the North shore, yet still a good hanging display. This ice almost looks a bit lacy in an artsy kind of way. Mother Nature sure knows how to create ever changing art for us to enjoy.

Downtown Houghton held a Winter Wonderland celebration over the weekend on the Waterfront. Folks could ride along the scenic Keweenaw Waterway trail in a horse drawn carriage with views of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge and holiday-themed lights, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and have a visit with Santa to tell him your Christmas wishes, all while listening to the sounds of Christmas Carolers singing holiday tunes. I'm not much for ice sculptures unless I'm
riding in a car checking them out that way,
lol.

The video was very cool And yes, Donna,
those horses are gorgeous.

Nice pics, "frozen in time" comes to mind and a very
festive video!!

I guess will be dropping into the deep freeze
shortly across the whole state!
