With the warmer weather melting some of our snow in mid-November and then not getting too much more since then, it makes it easier for Barbara Bouwkamp to still make day trips to their camp at Big Traverse, which means she can keep us up to date on the conditions out that way. She starts with what I think is a sunrise over Rice Lake and a look at how Barbara says is sort of ice covered. I think she means that it’s iced over, but probably not thick enough or safe to be out on it yet. Then Barbara snapped a sunrise over Lake Superior... less snow so far, means she can still walk out to the shore for shots like this.

Her next photo shows what she calls, the adventures of the tree root story. The channel there is somehow carved straight out now, so she thinks maybe the tree will last another summer. For a time the channel had carved out the sand right in front of the tree and that’s what exposed so much of its roots. Barbara points out that you can see where Lake Superior started to carve out some camps and those people put rock in the Big Lake along the shoreline as a buffer to save their places. She added that about 20+ years ago someone’s camp did get washed away.

And last but not least, the latest happenings at the slough out there at Traverse. You can see it’s frozen over now and Barbara spotted the clouds over the slough curving like the slough curves, mimicking the path of the water.

They’re lighting up the Ore Dock in Marquette for the holidays again! Sponsored by Travel Marquette and Pure Michigan and back by popular demand, Holiday Lasers on the Ore Dock will returned for its second edition this November and December. Scheduled for every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening it began November 24 and runs through December 31, so you still have a few weekends to enjoy the light display that will transform the Ore Dock with the colors of the season.

Nice pictures. It's wonderful not having
much snow yet so she can get out there. The
tree is interesting. But my hubby's anxious
for Rice Lake to freeze over so he can go
fishing. Îce fishing is not for me. I'm a
chicken.

The video was very cool.

The light shows are always amazing to me! But no
matter what colors are displayed, red and green always
tells us that Christmas is just around the corner.

Nice pix and the video was different. I’m wondering if they notify

the ships coming in otherwise it’s: “Captain, captain we’ve reached

the North Pole”.

Beautiful late Autumn shots (almost said Winter) and great eye Mary - pointing out how the clouds match the curve of the Slough. Very nice!!

Wonder why i don't recall the lights on the ore dock when i lived in Marquette! LOL! Oh, like maybe they weren't doing it then!

Sending prayers and best wishes for quick healing to both DA and UC. Take care of yourselves gentlemen!
