The Viking Octantis Cruise Ship was in Houghton again this past week where they anchored out near Dollar Bay in the canal and the passengers were shuttled to shore and then bused around the area. The ship left the same route it came in, from Lower Portage Entry and Jeff Dennis was on hand to snap some photos and make a video of it leaving from the White City area there. I don’t care how many times it comes to Houghton, I think it will always be something to see with a ship that size right here in the Keweenaw. It’s a good thing the Octantis didn’t want to tie up at the Lower Entry Pier, because Jeff’s bottom photo shows that there was no place left to land. It may have been like a scene from the old Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds, if passengers tried mixing in with those seagulls.
Jeff made a short video of the Octantis passing by as it was heading out of town. If you look closely, there are several folks up toward the top level and at the back of the ship waving to those on the pier. I wonder if they knew someone out there or just being friendly?

How fun for Jeff. It was exciting just
watching the video, so being there had to
be great. Awesome pictures and you're right,
Mary. No matter how often that ship comes,
it'll always be exciting. Thanks, Jeff.

Sweet pix and a cool vid! This ship was here to explore the habits
of the indigenous species known as UC, no doubt.
