Sometimes the setting sun just quickly goes below the horizon, other times it makes a big statement by coloring the skies on its way. We have a trio of photos from three different photographers illustrating that here today.
We begin with a shot of the Bishop Baraga statue on Keweenaw Bay. Nancy Haun captured this scene with the setting sun peeking through the trees, lighting up the Bishop naturally and casting shadows around him. I can imagine driving by this scene on the highway below and seeing the setting sun glinting off the Bishop, it must be a magical sight.
Sally Beaudette shares the next scene from her backyard in Bootjack. Unless you live where you can see the sun setting every day, you may not notice how it moves across the horizon, but Sally is blessed to be able to watch similar scenes all year long. She commented that she is “so happy that each day our sun with move a little closer to us”, meaning that by summer the sun will set right across the lake, rather than off to the left like this photo. I love how glow comes through the tree and even colors the snow.
The third shot in our sunset trilogy was snapped by Jean Dessellier from her Traprock Valley Home. She’s another of the lucky folks that gets to see the beauty of the setting sun every day. Thankfully she is also another of the folks that shares the beauty quite often. The brilliant red shines through the branches perfectly!
Jenny Fritz from Musical Zen with Jenny Fritz shares today’s peaceful video with a ‘babbling brook’ from one of her favorite spots on her favorite ski trail. Make sure your speakers are turned up to get the full effect from this ‘sound healing’ clip.

The sunsets are all beautiful. But I saw
Sally's on Facebook and it just grabbed me.
Something about it is just so peaceful
coming through the tree and settling on the
snow. I like that Sally seems to never tire
of the beauty surrounding her. I would frame
that picture. But again, I love them all and
thank everybody for sharing them.
The video must be the Traprock river.
Another very peaceful scene.
