For those of you that don’t live here in the Keweenaw, we had a dandy storm on Christmas Eve, with blowing snow that at times made visibility nearly impossible. Depending where you live the snow totals varied, but were anywhere from 6” to 16” dumped and blown around.
George C. Bailey headed out in the storm to snap some photos and to make a video, so others get to enjoy the sights and sounds of a good old winter blow! You can see Lake Superior is riled up in his photos with lots of whitecaps and spray in the air. George’s bottom photo with the picnic table, gives you a prime example of what the visibility was like when the snow was blowing all around with the high winds. That must be a heavy picnic table, because it stayed right there, despite the winds buffeting it throughout the storm. Out beyond the picnic table, you can just make out the waves crashing over the rocks. I don’t even want to think about how cold George’s fingers and face must have been with the wind whipping around him like that.
The video he made shows off the snow squalls blowing through the trees and stirring up the Big Lake, too. Turn up your speakers if you want to hear the roaring of the wind and waves.

You're the man George!!! Thanks for venturing out and capturing the storm for us! I was watching the Duluth Canal Cam and the ore carriers were stacked up waiting out the storm.
