This past Sunday, Brenda Leigh took a hike to the top of Iroquois Mountain in the Brimley area. They have also received some snowcover since this trek, but I’m not sure how much. Brenda did mention that she was looking forward to this hike on snowshoes, so maybe her next set of photos will be on a snowshoe trail.
I asked Brenda for a bit more information about her hike in this area and she sent along the following information:
Monocle Lake and Spectacle Lake are both east of the highest point on Iroquois Mountain. It's elevation is 627. Many years ago there was a ski lodge and downhill skiing as well. It opened in 1958 and closed in 1972. It had 8 runs, a double chair lift, 2 tows, and X-C skiing.
Here is info on the trail. Difficulty: Moderate- Mileage Hiked: 4.0 miles - Trailhead Temp: 75'F - Min. Elevation: 640' - Max Elevation: 835'
Pretty neat that both Monocle and Spectacle Lake are in such close proximity to Lake Superior. Plenty of hiking area to explore and water to kayak or canoe on.
Our video excursion is in the same area, near Brimley, filmed a year ago in December at
