“If a maple tree falls on the trail what do you do? You get Bucky, my ATV and a chainsaw and start to “make wood” which is a term used up here. Whatcha doing? Making wood. Everyone knows you’re working on your stash for next year because you can’t use fresh cut wood for your sauna or wood stoves. It has to dry. Bucky made four trips fully loaded. I don’t think even a full cord but it’s something!”
Barbara is right, when we’re cutting, hauling and splitting wood for winter heat or steaming up the sauna, we do say we’re “making wood”. Maybe it’s more like “making heat”, both while making it, working up a sweat and then burning it to heat the house or the sauna stove. Interesting play on words.
