Bob Gilreath and his wife, Liz have been busy planting flowers, vegetables and they have a variety of berries, too. I’m not sure what the first flowers are, but they sure make a beautiful blanket of color. The second photo, I believe is a planter filled with marigolds.

Looks like Bob and Liz will have a few peppers this year. I think those are Jalapeno peppers. They’ll spice things up pretty soon. In the meantime, the raspberries are ready for picking, but the blackberries and thimbleberries are not quite ripe yet. They’ll take a few more weeks before they’re ready. What a beautiful time of year when the garden is producing blooms, along with veggies and berries.

For Bob and Liz, summer in the Keweenaw, also means time to get out on the water for some fishing. Bob shares a video of Liz pulling in a nice catch, a 24 inch northern pike. No net required... Go Liz!

Very nice! We had a long dry spell and most of the wild berries dried up before they ripened.

That video brings back memories fishing on Sand Lake (in profile). Pike so big they scared me. Sweet pix, too.

Nice gardens. We can grow flowers and
raspberries like crazy but veggies give us
problems. We have gotten some nice cherry
tomatoes but the bigger ones are not growing...
again this year. Cucumbers are doing nothing.
So frustrating. So great going you guys. You
definitely have green thumbs. I'm not much for
northern but they sure are fun to catch.

I'm anxious to get out into my backyard. It hasn't been touched in over 2 years except for the neighbor kid mowing. My wife's Lilac bush is showing bits and pieces of lavender color blooms this week. Most of it is totally shrouded in creeping vines. And that's the tip of the "iceberg".

Hey D. A. (Midwested),

Sounds like a challenge! Hope the vines aren't poison ivy!
