We have a new Pasty Camist today, John Kurkowski. He’s been in the background on a number of other adventures with Chad Johnson, but today, John takes the spotlight as the photographer. The guys recently went exploring in the Copper City area to check out the Queen Anne’s Falls on Slaughterhouse Creek. (Click on the link for more information).

John said they had never been there before and I’m on that same list. In fact, I didn’t even know they existed. Lifelong resident and working here on the Pasty Cam for going on 17 years and I’m still learning about the Copper Country. I love it... there’s so much to see and do here, you just have to put on your exploring hat and get out there.

In case you can’t get out there quite yet, John also made a video of the falls, so you can get a feel for being there, minus the splashing water and bugs that are starting here now.

Well done! I wish I could get out there and explore, but unfortunately that's impossible now, so I really appreciate the videos.

I did see this waterfall mentioned on here a few
years ago, but had no idea how to find it. Thanks
for the link! Hope to see it later this year!

Who knew! There are so many great waterfalls in the Keweenaw, I guess it's OK to miss one or two along the way. There's even a designated parking area in Copper City, although it looks like there is better access from the east but that might be along a private road since that road only leads to a residence.

The most recent commenter in Mary's (Waterfalls of the Keweenaw Area) link mentioned he also ventured further south along an ATV trail, then bushwhacked a bit to discover what he called Scales Creek falls, a 20 foot direct drop. I searched my resources but still can't find it well enough to provide actual coordinates. Even "Waterfalls of the Keweenaw Area" is mum on it. Can anyone help out?

I still can't find the precise location of Scales Creek Falls. Waterfalls and rapids typically show up in the satellite imagery but in this case the creek flow rate is either very seasonal or more likely the vegetation cover is too dense. It should be east of Wolverine and south of Queen Anne's Falls. I did find these two Twitter posts regarding this "new" falls.

Darn. We were just in Copper City last week.
Wish I'd have known about these falls then.
Nice work.

it now. I'm with Alex.....
