Jean Dessellier gets all sorts of critter visitors to her place in Lake Linden and is always at the ready with her camera to capture their drop-in. Today she shares a couple of her feathered friends that stop by to partake of the bird feeder offerings they supply. The first photo is a male Goldfinch, decked out in his summer, yellow finery. The second shot is a male Purple Finch with a seed in his mouth. Jean always manages to get in so close that you feel like you could reach out and touch those silky looking feathers.
The video shows a unique “wheel feeder” that dispenses a seed when the wheel is turned. The birds figure it out pretty quickly, too! Published by Christopher Gates.

Yes...such clarity, the birds look like they can jump out of the monitor. Beautiful backyard in the video, as well.

Beautiful birdy photos!
For those of you in the area, or those about to return to the area around August 1, Nathalie (Dr. Nat) is giving a presentation on "Mining in the Ancient World" as part of the History on the Hill series of lectures sponsored by Quincy Mine and the KNHP. The presentation will be Thursday, August 1 at 7pm inside the historic 1894 Hoist House at Quincy.
Charlie/Mary: my apologies if this is the wrong place to post such messages. I know people have been wanting/waiting to hear Nathalie speak; this is their opportunity.....
