There have been a number of unique clouds and sunsets this past week, including today’s shots from Taana Blom out near Chassell and the Lower Entry Lighthouse. Her first photo shows the rays of sunlight bursting through the clouds, like spotlights in the sky. Then in her second photo, the skies have darkened and a small rainbow can be seen in the bright spot around the Lighthouse there. Those clouds are looking quite ominous in dark layers proceeding the flash of the rainbow and bright light.
Shawn Malone of Lake Superior Photo in Marquette shares today’s video, a timelapse of an isolated thunderstorm. It’s a quick look at lightning flashes and if you have your volume turned up, you’ll hear some rumbling, too.

If you watch the Weather Channel, the meteorologists will eventually (and repeatedly) remind you that the upper Great Lakes region is some of the most difficult to predict. The quickly changing and highly turbulent characteristics of the area is what also makes for the beautiful displays by nature.
