When Melanie Hakala Rossi goes rock picking, she’s usually successful, as she knows where to look and what to look for. She has some methods, too, because just look at the haul of rocks she came home with! That is a whole bunch of agates and such. Then to top it off, the deer in the third photo was strolling by along the treeline there at the Nature Conservancy at 7 mile point. Melanie said that she was so intent on rock hunting, that her friend David had to alert her to the presence of the deer, so she was able to snap a quick photo.
Speaking of rock picking, there is a rather new rock discovery here in the Keweenaw that folks are looking for, called Yooperlites. Today’s video is an ABC10 news story about the rocks and the man who discovered them last fall. Published by Lee Snitz.

I think that is one of the best edited videos we've ever featured. A whole documentary in less than 4 minutes :)

"Here is one like sunrise, it's older than you know. It's still lying there where some careless wave forgot it long ago." (CSNY)
