In this section, I would like to talk about some of the many different mining companies that were chartered by the Michigan Legislature to mine copper in the Upper Peninsula.
Unfortunately, there are very few artifacts that exist today that can be directly attributed to a particular company, except stock certificates.
Stock certificates can tell the story of the progress made to tap the great resources of the Copper Country, and they are also like time capsules. They capture the financial goals and failures of a particular investor, and in some cases, contain the signatures of great American financiers.
