Not sure if this is an Ahmeek or Allouez shaft.
Thanks to Bill Luokkanen for this information: " I am 99.9% sure this mine was located in New Allouez. The roadway is US-41 and the building to the left of the shaft house was a "dry" for the miners. The building was later owned by Ray Winquist & Son of Mohawk and used as a Saw Mill. Lake Superior Land now owns the property and it is used for a Log Yard. The select timber logged in Keweenaw County (Bird's Eye Maple, Curly Maple) is brought there and sold to log buyers from all over. (USA, Japan, etc.) Japan is a huge buyer of Bird's Eye Maple. The property to the right of the photo is now owned by Brian Sickler of Mohawk and he has a large Sand and Gravel pit there. I was born and raised in Keweenaw County and I am a "Local History Nut". My Grandfather was a pioneer in the Fulton/Mohawk area. He arrived with the Bollman Lumber Company in the late 1800s."
