I received this old Keweenaw card from a friend in Sweden, on Christmas day. Really got a kick out of the verse (below). Sture Torikka is married to a Holster girl from Finland. They live in Sweden, close to the Swede/Finland border. His wife, Ulla, and I have the same great-grandfather, Isaak Holster who emigrated to the USA and lived in Paavola. Seems amazing that he would have an old, old picture card of Keweenaw and send it back to me here in da UP. Holy Wah! As Carl Pellonpaa would say. :o)
When it's Christmas time in Michigan's U.P.,
And the gentle breezes blow,
About seventy miles an hour
And it's fifty-two below.
You can tell you're in DA UP
'cause the snow's up to your butt,
And you take a breath of Christmas air
And your nose holes both freeze shut.
The weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I'll hang around,
I could NEVER leave DA U.P,
My feet are frozen to the ground!
