Greetings from Venice, Florida!
I am a transplanted Michigander (alas, a troll)who grew up spending two weeks every summer in Laurium and Calumet with my great aunt and uncle Myrtle and Reuben Buzzo (they lived on Third St., or was it Depot St., next to a garage). My Dad, Bob Rowe, is a native born Yooper (born in Ishpeming and raised in Hancock-Calumet-Laurium) who moved to Detroit when he was 12 and now lives in Naples, FL.
My Mom would make pasties and saffron buns (our family was Cornish)and we would get thimbleberry jam and chow-chow when we were in the UP during the summer. Unfortunately I haven't been to the UP in many years but I love this web site and now visit it daily. My Dad sent me some frozen pasties from Still Waters for Xmas.
I'm assuming I have relatives in the UP still- it would be very cool to connect with them. I met a cousin, Howard, at my Great Aunt Myrtle's funeral in 1975 and he took me on a tour of MTU, but I don't remember his last name... So here goes with the family history thing...my ancestors John Henry Rowe and his wife LoveDay Chinn Rowe came to the US in the 1860's from Cornwall to mine copper. One of their sons, John Henry, married a young lady named Louisa Jayne and one of their sons, James Jayne, was my grandfather. James Jayne Rowe married a young lady named Florence who died around WWI and then remarried a young lady, Emily Blee, who gave birth to Robert Douglas Rowe, my Dad. In the 1930's my grandparents took Robert to Detroit because my grandfather had found work there. My Dad married Marilyn Hutchings and had two daughters and we were raised in the Detroit area. Unfortunately my Mom died in 1980 and my sister now lives in California, I'm in Florida and my Dad (who has remarried twice) also lives in Florida.
If any of this genealogy sounds familiar to anyone I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Yoopers: My parents were from the U.P. Mom was Amy Lusa from Wakefield, and my Dad was Raymond H Martin from Dollar Bay. I spent many summers in the U.P. and I look back on them as some of the more memerable times of my life.My Dad in
Dollar Bay had five Brothers, Rudy, Roy,Ray,Robbie and Ralph. He also had twin sisters Inga and Sigrid,oh yes Ralph and Robbie were twins also. There Motherd (my grandma) was Elizabeth and his father was Sedolph. All of the Martins ended up in Detroit area in their later years except for Inga who remained in Dollar Bay. As for my mothers side of the family she had a sister named Lillian and a brother named Spooner. My mom and her sister came to Detroit, but Spooner remained in Wakefield and worked for the Iron ore mines and he also became the Mayor of Wakefield at one time. I would appreciate it if anyone out there in cyber space has any information or stories of the Martin or Lusa family to contact me thru Email. Would love to hear from you. My name is Raymond H Martin and I live in Birch Bay, Washington. Address: 7985 Sawgrass Way, Blaine , Wa. 98230 Email magray4230 @aol.com.......You all have a great New Year. Ray
