Quite a crowd at Still Waters this afternoon for the annual Christmas open house. It was standing room only in the dining room where Pasty Central was born back in 1996. Around these tables the residents were first photographed peeling the veggies to make pasties. As people saw the pictures, they began to email, asking "How about you send US some of those pasties?" The rest is history, and some 164,000 pasties later we're still having a good time.
This evening at Still Waters, the staff gathered for our Christmas party. It was a sumptuous dinner served by Chef Eric Karvonen and his crew, followed by singing and fun. Still Waters has faced some extreme challenges in these changing times, but the hard work of our dedicated staff and volunteers, and the support of the community has kept the Home fulfilling its mission of caring for the Grandmas and Grandpas of the Copper Country.
We did a little reminiscing tonight at the party. Pasty Central has been a lifeline for this non-profit organization. The pasty kitchen and Internet service which has evolved from it continue to serve the whole country with a taste of the U.P. Special thanks to all who helped make this holiday season another one for the record books.
