Quite a crowd at Still Waters this afternoon for the annual Christmas open house. It was standing room only in the dining room where Pasty Central was born back in 1996. Around these tables the residents were first photographed peeling the veggies to make pasties. As people saw the pictures, they began to email, asking "How about you send US some of those pasties?" The rest is history, and some 164,000 pasties later we're still having a good time.

This evening at Still Waters, the staff gathered for our Christmas party. It was a sumptuous dinner served by Chef Eric Karvonen and his crew, followed by singing and fun. Still Waters has faced some extreme challenges in these changing times, but the hard work of our dedicated staff and volunteers, and the support of the community has kept the Home fulfilling its mission of caring for the Grandmas and Grandpas of the Copper Country.

We did a little reminiscing tonight at the party. Pasty Central has been a lifeline for this non-profit organization. The pasty kitchen and Internet service which has evolved from it continue to serve the whole country with a taste of the U.P. Special thanks to all who helped make this holiday season another one for the record books.

Cousin Jack, Your music is beautiful! While listening, I closed my eyes and imagined it was one of those rare UP summer days with a low 80 degree temp and I was sitting up at White Fish Pointe, (Or any other UP shoreline for that matter) alone, while the waves lapped at the shoreline. The two were a perfect fit. Again thank you for sharing your talent.

Merry Christmas to one & all!

Mmmmmmm, almost looks like I could reach right in
the photo and help myself to something
scrumptious. (suddenly salivating). How delightful
to see some of the residents too, the force behind
the pasties. Very merry photos, indeed.

Merry Christmas to all and a special thanks to Charlie for all the hard work you do so we can enjoy the beautiful Copper Country even at our homes. I start everyday right here and it lifts me up and often brings a smile. Carry on!

Mmmmmm, Looks like there might be some saffron bread on that table, just one of the many things I miss about home.

Thank you Charlie and staff for keeping the excellent pictures on Pasty Cam. It is my favorite stop each morning. We used to visit Mrs Azar Kirkish when she lived at Still Water many years ago. We lived in their apartment in Houghton back in 1953-54 and visited them at their camp on Lake Superior in later years. Mrs Kirkish always had some fresh Thimbleberry jam for us. We last me Joe at Eagle Harbor at a summer fair in about 1990 also visited Jimmie at the Kaleva Cafe.
Merry Christmas to one and all. Will have to order some more pasties after the holidays.
