Remember those hot days in August when the mercury was pushing 95 ? Sure could use a little of that heat now, what with single digit windchills here on the shore. Thanks to Sharon Smith for capturing this wonderful blue moment for the Pasty Cam. Standing here, clicking the stark beauty, she was probably starting to turn blue herself.

Someone has suggested that each month we should select a picture for the following year's color calendar, instead of leaving it all for October to decide. Perhaps this month we could begin, looking ahead to 2004. Today's scene could certainly be a contender.

By the way, we hope to have the 2003 Calendars available before Thanksgiving. Another great line-up of U.P. photos this year. Thanks to all who emailed us your favorites.

I would do anything short of killing to have a nice little house about 500 feet back from this photo! Oh my goodness, that is so beautiful. I get a knot in my stomach when I see pix like this. The memories are overwhelming.

I sw this photo in Sharon's journal last night. It is so pretty. You can feel the coldness and the power of those waves.I agree Alex,It would be fabulous to see and hear this everyday. This definitely should be a contender.

I visited the UP about 4 years ago in the height of Fall to see Houghton, where my grandmother spent her summers and where her forefathers settled during the mid 1800s. I recall seeing a sign near Copper Harbor that read "You are now breathing the freshest cleanest air on earth". It was absolutely true - this photo reminds me the way that air tasted.

i think that photo is nice, and it makes me want to go swimming right now. except for the snow clouds that are up above the lake. makes me want to run and cover up under a nice warm blanket.
was it ever cold last night.
everyone drive safe..

I was fortunate enough to complete my 5th visit this year U.P. to the Keweenaw last week bouncing back and forth from the Eagle Lodge, where the views are the same as the photo above, and Lac La Belle where a good friend named Ned lives. It's like two different worlds, each with it's own unique power to make you glad you're alive. I'm now planning either number 6 for this year or number 1 for next year. Great photo, it reminded me of last weeks lake waves. They were rollin' in.

Those waves and the beauty of Lake Superior reminds of the wonderful times we had at Gitthee Gummie Bible Camp when I was a teen ager and now at the Ladies retreats..hope I can go next
Sept..God Bless you all

Raw beauty, raw power! Superior at its best. The only thing that could enhance todays picture would be the sound of those whitecaps breaking. Lets hope these beautiful resources are preserved somehow for everyone in future generations to enjoy.

The picture was taken from beside the old Bear Paw shop at Dan's Point, looking east. And yes, the parts of me not swathed in down were just about frozen...the windchill was around 15 degrees, with a 20mph or so wind. But to be able to see the sun and see the lake all blue again made it worth the cold - ahem! - and frozen hands.

Hello Charlie and gang,
Gorgeous photo. Definately a calendar shot! Got my pasty order yesterday, so will have a great dinner in about one hour. Pasties arrived in wonderful shape. Pasty Central did a great job. Thanks to all. This will be my husbands first pasty. Can't wait to see his reaction!

It's the ice cold that keeps it beautiful!

By Patron WA on Thursday, November 7, 2002 - 07:48 pm:

We would like to put in an early vote to include Sharon's photo in next years calender. Can not find the right words for its outstanding beauty truly it is something that pleases the senses of ones mind.

What a wondermous view!! Like RCW says, It really is a great shot! You can just feel the cold wind and spray, so clean! Thank you, Sharon and Charlie. Again. Don't know where is it, Dan's Point. Are you there, Toivo?

Toivo: Here ya go, Ken. Dan's point is a clearly visible hump jutting out in the Lake between Esrey Park and Copper Harbor. You can really see it good from space.

Hello, Ken from da UP,
How do I get to the space shot web on the computer? It's awesome!
Thank you!!!

Brings back some chilly memories. It's been beautiful 70's weather out here- insane compared to the November weather I'm used to in the U.P. Looking forward to coming back to the snow and cold :)

Love the picture! We visited up there this past summer and it was wonderful to be back again after 20+ years being away. Really wanted to stay.

I try to tell people here in Houston TX about the big lake and they just don't have a clue!

By Jeff H. Clawson, MI. on Monday, November 25, 2002 - 12:16 pm:

I visited the area in October of 2001 and have very fond memories of the trip. I found a tremendous sense of community in the Keweenaw. Even had a chance to see a show in the Calumet Opera House. The photo brings back those memories. Keep up the great work. Pasty.com is a great website.

Sure makes me miss my home
