Tom Harris from Wisconsin has had a few adventures lately up here in the U.P. One shot appeared a few weeks ago, as Carson Klemp surfed Superior. There's plenty more where that came from, and this one caught my eye.

I don't know what it is about old junkyards... Feels like stepping back in time, sort of a living museum of automotive memories. The one above almost looks like so many headstones in a mechanical graveyard. Perhaps it should have been our Halloween shot last week.

Reminds me of that classic shot in the Keweenaw woods by Joe Kirkish...

Old cars everywhere....I worked on the Otter River Improvement Project during the summer of 2000 and I think it was 5 or 6 old cars that were removed from the river and riverbanks. From what I remember, they were from around the 1930's.

Tom is my cousin, he is a great kid and I am really impressed with his pictures. I attend college in Vermont, and I check pasty.com everyday, to get a glimpse of the "Yoop"! Thanks

In reference to Joe's classy chassis picture: I figure when my '93 VW Passat (currently with 180K+ miles and going strong) gives up the ghost, a proper tribute to such a great car would be hauling it somewhere fitting in the yard, opening up the sunroof and planting an oak, pine, or some other noble tree in it. If I'm back in the U.P. when that happens, perhaps I'll plant a White Pine, a spruce of either color, or a real oak tree, none of which grow in Florida because it's too hot. Missing the U.P. big time, peggo

p.s. for those concerned, that's after making the hull environmentally safe and placed on my own property of course. Sorry, didn't mean to upset anybody....I am just joking, but now that I think about it, let's take out the engine too. With that and the trunk, I have two more planters. I can do maples and tamaracks too. :o)

Do you realize how much money thoses hood's are worth to classic car collector's. If you come across anymore car's or parts please keep it to yourself, because if it becomes public someone is going to get rich by taking thoses old parts, fenders and anything they can get thier hands on, I wish I had access to all of them depending on condition $3,000.00 to you name it for a hood as long as its not rusted to peices. Please protect the unknown gold mines in the U.P.

Maaybe they should try to fish some of the ones out of the old mine shafts where they were dumped.

So what's so wrong about having some people make money off of what's sitting out in our woods? I for one think if yoopers can make money on our junk by selling it to the rest of the country and cleaning up our back yards, all the better. As long as its the landowner who's doing the salvaging or with the landowner's permission.

I think Darrell meant someone from downstate seeing the $$$ in that picture and would have no problem running up there and loading them up. You would not believe the lengths *some* trolls would go to to make a buck!

I'm from the UP but now live in Vermont. Which college are you attending?

I was thinking more along the lines of some enterprizing person from the area collecting, cataloging, and opening a web site from there and listing, selling and shipping from there, keeps the money where it belongs and create a new business in the area and we all know any new business is better for the area.

Hmmmmmmm, wonder what would happen if I just gave that first one a push???

They really put cars in the mines? Why? What a waste of parts. How did they get them in? The ones I saw looked like it would be hard to do. mines I mean. Makes me wonder what else was put down in the hole? Jimmy Hoffa? lol
