Charlie and Edie, Keweenaw bound on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 08:30 am:

We're taking a little extra time on our way back to the Copper Country, enjoying the scenery across the changing U.P. The northern lower peninsula is also beautiful, many spots north of Saginaw-Midland just hitting their peak of color.

Don't forget to vote on your favorite Pasty Cam shots for the 2003 calendar. We'll total up the votes by this weekend.

By Joe, IL on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 09:32 am:

Charlie: My only suggestion for next year's calendar is that I prefer shots unique to the Keweenaw. Pictures I can point out to my friends and say "this is why I love to go U.P. there". We've seen so many outstanding shots of individual flowers and close ups of leaves but they're not unique to the area. I'll leave the selections to others and enjoy each and every one of them no matter what they are. I look forward to seeing the final product. I hope my idea isn't misunderstood.

By Kate, CA on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 09:49 am:

Joe, I couldn't agree with you more. It has to
do with Yooper Pride! While many shots are
outstanding and "Wow" material, are they
really uniquely reflective of our beloved U.P.?
Those of us from there know how special it is
and hopefully, the calendar, especially as a
gift, would allow the viewer to know that too. I
must say, however, that I am a Pasty cam
addict and check each and every day for
glimpses of "my" beloved U.P. I sincerely
appreciate viewing it through the eyes of
others. Thank you to all of you who make it
possible.

I agree, I log in everyday JUST to see the beauty that you enjoy everyday....

By Ginny Jacka Durst, Atl. GA on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 11:08 am:

I too enjoy looking for the spots that I so fondly
love! I like showing to friends what they have missed all of their lives! Lac La Belle, Bete Grise, Eagle Harbor, Copper Harbor, local people. The shoe box memories are wonderful and would be neat if you could find decendents with their pictures inset with the old ones. But no matter, I will not miss a day of pasty cam! Keep up on the wonderful work Charlie and thank you for taking the time to do all of this for all of us!

Joe....You hit da nail on da head buddy. We love our "Naw"...

By patb, Mishawaka, IN on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 12:05 pm:

I truly enjoy each and every picture. I change my wallpaper picks from your site each week. Thank you so much for bringing the UP to us each day. If you are keeping tabs I agree with Joe, Kate and JC. Once again thanks, and can't wait to see the calendar.

By Dan in Fenton, MI on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 12:47 pm:

Just had to stop for five of these critters on Pleasant Valley Road near M-59 last night. Just like Bruce Crossing!

By former miner, new mexico on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 01:02 pm:

I agree with everyone that this is a special site.
I also agree that the pictures for the calendar should be ones that are recognizable or unique to the area, which includes all of the U.P. I understand most pics will be from the Keweenaw: the site originates from there and most of the contributing camists are from there or live there now.(and it is BEAUTIFUL!) However, let's not forget the rest of the UP.

By ashley, mi on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 02:03 pm:

i love ths pictures too. i check it first every morning.. while having myself a cup of coffee..
it is just so much fun

By Jason Cooper, Mi on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 03:32 pm:

That looks just like the one hit 2 summers ago!

By Jan, Milford, MI on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 04:08 pm:

Every day I leave work, pick up my son from school, have lunch at home, send my husband off to work, then check to see what beautiful glimpse you have for us. I look so forward to it.

We have many deer hanging around our yard down here and, with the fall colors and the moss on the trees, my afternoon walks always stir up memories of being in the UP. The photo is gorgeous!

Can't wait to visit that hallowed ground gain soon!

By KL,MI on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 04:12 pm:

Hey Marv, is that one of your girls?

By greg, hockeytown on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 04:46 pm:

i have to agree...white tails are everywhere, but thanks for the new desktop picture! i get most of them here, but really like the "unique to the U.P." pics.

By JAD, Oskar, MI on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 05:56 pm:

I agree with Joe--stick with the UP, but mainly with the Keweenaw.

By That Guy From Georgia on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 09:38 pm:

OH DEAR!

By Marc, offshore GoM/Tamarack City on Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 02:57 am:

Guess I'll throw my 2 cents in.

I too, look forward to the daily glimpses of home.

What really makes this site so special is the shots of our local beauty in the Keweenaw and surrounding areas. The whole world is full of beautiful places that are captured in wonderful photos every day, but there's only one Copper Country and that's what makes the pasty cam special and what keeps us all coming back.

I think you really have to be displaced to understand how much this site and the pictures from home mean to some of us.

Thanks to everyone at pasty cam for their hard work and wonderful site!!

By de Yampert, Houghton, MI. on Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 07:30 am:

Oops, I apologize for not hitting the resize button after reducing the photograph. Toivo said it was important to keep the contributions much smaller. So much fun to be part of the UP and record it with a camera and pretend to be Dan U. and Steve B.
Regards,
Donn

By Stephanie, Dewitt Michigan on Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 11:43 am:

I agree with you Mark,100%,you really do need to be displaced from the U.P. to realize how much this site means to alot of us,including myself!
Well said Mark!
And the pics of the deer and wonderful, I think they are just such beautiful animals..As you can tell I am not a hunter, I would much rather see them alive in the woods than strapped to the back of someones car/truck,or mounted on a wall..but hey to each thier own and to all the Hunters have fun this season,,RUN DEER RUN! HA ha ha!

By Candy, CA on Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 02:25 pm:

Donn, you don't have to pretend to be Dan or Steve -- you've got quite an eye yourself! For a little Yooper girl living in the semi tropics of California, getting a glimpse of home is always wonderful. I miss the scenery a lot, but love my new home, too. Charlie has created quite a cosy place for us all to visit, hasn't he? Kiitos, Charlie!

By RML new to Ann Arbor on Friday, October 25, 2002 - 12:13 am:

16 more hours and I'll be home again!! It's been three months and have to say I "Cant stand" to be gone for that long!!!

By Pat from Grand Ledge, MI on Monday, October 28, 2002 - 08:05 am:

Thank you so much for the beautiful
deer pictures. As a yooper living downstate
I really love the pictures on your site.
There are a lot of deer in the mid-Michigan
area but I rarely see them.
