Most of the leaves are fallen, and the grand colorful vistas have peaked. I find that looking closer, or finding an unusual perspective helps me get good photographs in late Autumn.

We’d had snow flurries overnight, and many of the fallen leaves cradled melted droplets. I looked for leaves located at water’s edge for more interest. I like the contrast between the fluid and the static. Low camera angles brought in some reflections to spice things up.

It was quite cold, with a few snow clouds in the sky. The “Little Greenwoods Falls” provided good foreground material to convey the mood of the afternoon. By the way, that’s my property in the background. It’s there for people to enjoy; Urbanski’s wilderness area. I own 1,000 feet downstream from the Greenwoods or Bonanza falls. Foot traffic only, please.

Dan, both pix are great but the 2nd one is my favorite--nice colors, motion, and the diagonal lines bring the eye in to the photo from the lower right very nicely.

My wife and I were up in Silver City and the Porkies in late Sept. for several days before going to the Keweenaw; we finally got to see your studio and the breathtaking photos. You were busy in the camera room but Susan (?, rotten 51-year-old memory) was as nice as could be--we had a wonderful chat with her and bought one of your photos--who could resist? :D

Andy Williams used to sing a Christmas song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year". I think if he had seen the U.P. in the fall, he would have scrapped winter and sung only songs about fall.

Thanks for the pics Dan! I was lost one night many many years ago on the Big Iron and spent the night near Greenwood Falls with all of White Pine looking for me and three others and their dog. Even while lost (technically not lost, I knew we were on the Big Iron River somewhere) I had my admiration for nature and the U.P.

The 2nd picture gets my vote for WOW this week. How often do we walk along in the woods and not take the time to just look down sometimes. The little things, like that lone leaf clinging to the rock, may just get passed over and we'd never know it. Thanks Dan for taking the time and looking down at the small stuff!

It's taken me the full 21 years since (wow! that long?) I graduated from Tech to finally appreciate the beauty of what I left. Sadly, I have not been able to return even once. Love the pictures. Makes me miss it even more. Thanks and hello to everyone still lucky enough to live in Keweenaw area or able to visit.

Donn, that middle picture looks like something off a jigsaw puzzle box. Hmm, let's see, the border first, then the blue sky parts, then the clouds, those really bright parts first, then the path, then the green trees (does this piece go in the larger trees on the right or in that smaller grouping on the left?)... If you can't be there, it least you can look for a long time!
