As mentioned yesterday, Edie and I are on the road for a few days, going to a family reunion, and enjoying some fall color. Couldn't reach Toivo before we left... I think he's out in the wild making wood.

Carson Klemp made some waves out at McLain State Park with his bodyboard, and Tom Harris captured the chilly scene. This must be a first for the Pasty Cam. Maybe we'll have to revisit the idea of a Swimsuit Edition for our next calendar:o)

P.S.: We have to get back on the road, so later this evening I'll try to write more about our travelling adventures this week.

Hey, folks...

Those from Keweenaw can contact me offline at weatherman@ealertusa.com if you want, but I am looking for information.

PastyNET probably put the icing on the cake with these thoughts, but I am seriously considering relocating from Georgia to the Mohawk area. Nothing in my childhood was more wonderful than my 3 weeks a year in Mohawk, visiting Grandma! There isn't a more beautiful place or environment on Earth!

I am wondering what house rentals are running these days for a three bedroom house. What is work like? Is there ANYTHING in the way of working at the lift bridge, or lighthouses?

I am self employed, so it's not like I need much... I have a love for bridges and lighthouses, that's all.

I can't stand being away from the U.P. much more, and my family sees it as well. But relocating is a BIG move, regardless of financial conditions, so I am trying to find a few things out about the Mohawk area, because it's been so long since I've been back "home".

If anyone cares to talk through E-Mail about this, I would appreciate the chance to ask questions, etc.

One reason I posted this here, (other than the obvious), is so those who have never been in the U.P. can see what this magic place does to people. God's Country? At least!

I love this web sight. I check it out every morning before I start work at General Motors. In the winter I like to check the bridge cam to see if it is snowing. I once damaged my car on a slippery winter day, on that bridge, when I slid over the concrete median. Awe, the good old days living in the Keweenaw.

I wonder if anyone could help me. My grandfather and two of my uncles worked at Atlas Power Co. which was located at Senter outside of Dollar Bay. I am trying to find any information I can about this company. Thank you.

Don't forget to include the photo of Aimee and the Polar Bear girls from last January! Heck, throw in that "vintage" photo, too! (Also January 2002).

The temperature of the lake is warm - compared to the air today. The lake temp. is 45 degrees F west of the Keweenaw and almost 48 degrees F north of the tip. You might want to check out this site: www.isleroyale.org/weather/links.html

By Carson Klemp, MI on Saturday, October 19, 2002 - 09:27 pm:

Thats me in the picture. The water was abouy 50 degrees with the air temp at about 40. The waves were about 3-4 feet and I ended up staying in the water for about 45 minutes before I decided next time I would also bring my bootties and gloves. I hope to get out Sunday if the waves come up. If anyone else likes to rides waves and is looking for someone to go with...email me.

say alex tiensivu what was your gramma name in mohawk.if yo are self employed you might have a chance at work.there is not alot of industry up here.

By Alex Tiensivu, Georgia on Saturday, October 19, 2002 - 11:10 pm:

My Grandmother was Hilda Tiensivu. She live on Union Street in Mohawk. My Uncle Marvin, (Butch), lived in Fulton. The family was originally from Gay. I assume after Grandpa died, Grandma moved to Mohawk. I could almost swear she died at Still Waters. The maiden name was Lokenen, which I am 99.9% sure I mispelled!

My cousin owned the Arco Gas Station on the corner of 41 and Union. Again, I am going to murder the last name, but she was Linda Savolainen. She has a son, Charlie, Jr.

Also... The Keckonen's in Gay... They are related. (If any of them are still around). My Aunt Sylvia, (my dad's sister), married Oscar Keckonen.
