This reminds me of the old song, "Oh, what a beautiful morning".

Just got to get outside...

By Candy, CA on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 10:14 am:

Oooooo, pretty. Charlie, I am (a little) jealous! I have to drive a bit to see colors here in CA, although we do get a pretty fall here, too (in another month).

By Mike B, Pittsburgh, wishin I was still in the Yoop on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 10:31 am:

In another month, Charlie will be shoveling snow ;^)

By Mo from Florida on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 11:08 am:

If that! Can't wait for more of the fall colors. Thanks.

By Carolyn Spoehr, Arizona on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 11:28 am:

Nice to see the colors. We don't see much of it here at the Grand Canyon because here on the South Rim it is mostly pine trees. There are a few scrub oak but they don't get pretty like the ones up there. I moved a little more than 1 1/2 years ago from the Copper Country. Miss the colors, but don't miss all the snow. We get some snow here but not as much as up there. Matter of fact it snowed a little yesterday, but of course we are at 7000 feet here.
Thanks for the fall color pictures and the recent ones of the Northern lights. That picture the other day of the prints did look like a moose track. My husband worked on Isle Royale for 13 summers before getting the job out here.

By Alice, Ventura, CA on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 12:20 pm:

Oh what a glorious day! Beautiful pics! Sent the pictures on to my son for his birthday today. Seemed like a nice birthday present.

By Angel Boyle, Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 01:19 pm:

My daughter and her family are camping in the Keweenaw this week. They love the Jam Pot and the kids love chucking rocks into Lake Superior! I keep checking your web site to see how the weather is. The pictures you post are glorious and make great wallpaper on my computer. Thanks so much!

By Marsha, Genesee on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 01:56 pm:

Ah, the Keweenaw, the colors, and the Jampot! What could be better than a hermit cookie and a Diet Coke right about now?

By jan on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 02:28 pm:

hermit cookie and a diet coke???? marsha, marsha, marsha... have a glass of milk. but i wholeheartedly agree about the hermit cookie.

By Candy on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:02 pm:

or one of the wonderful cream cheese muffins...or a molasses cookie...or some Abby Cake...who can choose!

By Karen, AZ on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 03:43 pm:

Thank you again for beautiful pictures of home. Compared to these pictures, our fall colors in Arizona are different shades of brown!

By Lowell La Fave MO on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 04:00 pm:

Have to agree with the others. It also gets pretty here in Missouri but still isn't like the UP.

By Molly Houghton MI on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 04:04 pm:

I've never heard of a hermit cookie. What is it? I agree, the glass of milk with any cookie is a better choice. The fall colors are even better. The only problem is that we know what is to come. Although I don't mind the winter. I'm a winter sports nut so I pass the winter away in a hurry. Do the Heikki Luntta snowdance. Bring it on!!

By Ryan, Good Ol Calumet MI on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 05:00 pm:

Nooooooooo Molly not the "S" word yet! ; )
Lets enjoy fall first, we will have plenty of snow shoveling and scooping to come-
So slow the Heiki Lunta snow dance to a slow waltz, wait til at least November, Hopefully the kids will have a snow free Halloween to trick or treat in..I remember some years back driving the little ones to trick or treat the snow was coming and the wind was brutal,so maybe this year they can just crunch on through the leaves and not the snow-til at least November first- : )

By Donna on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 07:15 pm:

What a glorious day here. I walked down to the Lake Linden park this morning..and watched the sun come up over the fog-filled lake. It was so thick..you could hear the geese..but not see them. There were two sail boats sitting in the little bay there. Once the sun came up..the fog started to burn off, and I watched a flock of geese, several to be precise. The frost was then noticeable too. It was coming out of the dock. The dock looked just like diamonds where spread so thin on the wood. Walking back along the shore, the clover in the grass was white. We did have a hard frost. Later in the day, I went up to Calumet to run a few errands, then through Copper City, down the dirt road that goes to the Mohawk/Gay road. That little piece of road was simply sizzling with color. It was just incredible in there. The inland roads seem to produce a little more color than the lakeside roads. I went out to Oliver Bay in Keweenaw County and down through Gay, the Gay road and through by Bekkala's and back into Lake Linden. Inland is nice color...about 25% at least. Lakeshore is behind. Tourists are in town. Plan on driving slow!

Happy Autumn. I just live for this time of year! :-)

By Pegg, Fla on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 08:39 pm:

I pulled out my silk fall fake foliage today to decorate the house. It just doesn't quite get it, if ya know what I mean. I have had it with Florida! It's too blasted hot. After 22 years in Fla, I'm ready to come home. Spent all that time working on mainframe computers, getting stressed out. Life is too short....Can I get a job at Wal-Mart, Econo, MTU or KFC? I'll do anything to come back. Have a house in Baraga, just need to make it livable in winter, (have talked to Bianco's about that), get a vehicle with a blade and go for it. What do you all think? May God bless you all....

By Curious on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 08:59 pm:

Does anyone know what those bumps on the leaves are from?

By Sam/Alabama on Thursday, October 3, 2002 - 09:24 pm:

Pegg, Stop in Alabama and pick me up too, I've had enough of the heat myself.

By Scott, Wisconsin on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 12:12 am:

Fall is the best, I love the cool freshness of
it all. I lived in Arizona for seven years
and after awhile it's just another sunny
day and it becomes meaningless. You can't
enjoy the sun if there isn't the rain.
You can't enjoy the fall colors either in
a desert. While I understand why folks are
retiring there it's not the northland.

I live for the seasons.......

I will be visiting Copper Country again soon!
I love your beautiful U.P. and the sights.

Best of all it's clean and unspoiled and
uncrowded. No rushing no stress.

By Ken from da UP on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 12:16 am:

Didn't someone say that those bumps are a virus of some kind? Not warts or West Nile virus. :o)The colors down here in Cornell are not very far along. When we came back from downstate last week there were splotches here and there, like the GREAT ARTIST had been cleaning HIS brushes by swinging the colors off them. Between Gwinn and CR 480 there are some very beautiful and bright colors. Really coming in to a pretty season. 'Course I'm prejudiced for the UP, I think they're ALL pretty.

By R Somero CA on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 01:48 am:

Looks like my timing will be OK. I'll be back there next week. The very best time of the year-for sure.

By baker on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 07:54 am:

A hermit cookie is kind of a spice cookie with raisins and nuts, but the JamPot, if my memory serves me correctly, adds some chocolate chips, which makes them absolutely heavenly (would you expect any less from the JamPot?).

By ShawnR, GR MI on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 08:22 am:

My favorite cookies from the Jampot have oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and raisins in them. They are so good! But then, I don't think I've ever had anything that wasn't good at the Jampot!

By bj-milford on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 09:30 am:

ShawnR - I love those cookies!! Tried to duplicate, but they are never the same. Guess we'll just have to do a "road trip". Leaving Monday. :)

By Frank C, NE Illinois on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 12:52 pm:

You folks want cookies, we found "heaven in a baggie" last week at the Wood'n Spoon on 41 in Mohawk!

Their homemade double-chocolate cookies are (rather, were!) scrumptdillyicious! I've never had such incredible cookies. I'll have to call them to see if they ship. I only wish we'd bought some of their homemade jams and jellies, and they're nice folks, too!

By ShawnR, GR MI on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 04:18 pm:

Yeah, the Wood'n Spoon is pretty good too, but I am hooked on the cookies from the Jampot. bj - enjoy your trip and have a cookie (or two) for me!

By Gina- Lansing on Friday, October 4, 2002 - 09:50 pm:

ShawnR and bj, stop and pick me up too. I could visit my folks on Superior Road south of Houghton, and then get some more Abbey Cake for all the trolls down here!

By pegg, fla on Saturday, October 5, 2002 - 09:59 am:

Hey Sam, You have probably have had too much of hurricane related weather too. Just imagine if it was snow?

By Charlotte, Santa Cruz, CA on Saturday, October 5, 2002 - 10:28 am:

I was in Bootjack (Lake Linden) last weekend. Always a beautiful day in Bootjack! Loved it, but I missed the fall colors. I did get a pasty though. I love your website because it makes me feel in touch with whats going on up there. The Hoyem's are my family and I wish I was there with them now. Thanks for the great pictures. cdm
