On its Great Lakes tour this summer, the U.S. Brig Niagara arrived in Marquette last week. Ken Austin had photographed it while at anchor off of Washburn, Wisconsin, and Daryl Laitila got a few more shots at Marquette harbor. There's a nice website filled with the history and adventures of the Niagara, www.brigniagara.org, which calls Erie, Pennsylvania its home.

By the way, if you enjoy watercolors of Great Lakes scenes, stop by austinmillerstudio.com and check out the artistry of Ken's daughter, including several Keweenaw subjects.

Tomorrow evening (Friday) our family and friends will venture out on the Lake ourselves, on the Keweenaw Star, for a dinner cruise after Jonathan and Katriina's wedding rehearsal. In less than 60 hours the couple sets sail on the Sea of Matrimony. What a busy week it has been!

You are waxing poetic this morning, Charlie -- hard to let your little boy go on this grown-up adventure? God's peace to you all!

exception. :-) Enjoy the cruise!

Great pics. I lived in Erie for several years and it's great to see the Niagara visiting other great lakes.

We saw this boat out on the water near Christmas last Sunday as we were (unfortunately) driving back down state after two refreshing weeks in the north woods. We wondered what it was. Now we know. Thanks.

Oh boy, we didn't miss the wedding. I just got back from Las Vegas, spotted a young guy wearing a Michigan Tech t-shirt, and thought of Jon and Kaatrina. But by the time it actually registered on the brain, and I turned around to perhaps speak to the Yooper, he was gone! I also wondered if it could have been the happy couple on their honeymoon. Has the wedding trip itinerary been mentioned and I've just forgotten?

There will be a picture or two, won't there?

Whoops-sorry about the misspelling of Katriina's name. I knew there were two vowels.

We saw the ship the night before it came into Marquette Lower Harbor. It spent the night in the Big Bay harbor. We saw it from squaw beach leaving. Of course the camera was back at the cabin. Once it got out a ways, it put up the full mast. It was such a sight to watch my daughters swim with the ship sailing off to Marquette. I can only share the memory. We had a great 2 weeks in Big Bay. Can't wait for next year.

Mimi and I were in Marquette this aft. to go aboard the CGC Mackinaw. Was a nice tour although short. Saw what's left of the old ore dock in the background. That really is a beautinous pic of 'NIAGRA'. Another WOW!! Best wishes to Jon and Katriina! God's blessing on you both. You're in our prayers.
