We have some fond memories of Sand Hills. It's within walking/skiing/snowmobiling distance of our home in Eagle River, and I did all three with Jonathan and Becky as they were growing up.

See that covered porch tucked into the middle of the building? There is a balcony above it, just off the room where Edie and I spent our anniversary a few years ago (Dec 22). We had the whole place to ourselves, except for Bill Frabotta and Mary, the year-round keepers.

Steve Brimm has provided photos of several lights included in this coming weekend's Lighthouse Celebration. We'll also be adding to the daily picture, other views provided by Pasty Cam visitors, so check back later in the week.

Well I have a feeling this week is gonna be full of wows, and I am sure my screensaver will be changing just about daily, Well today Sand Hill is my new one replacing the lookout at Isle Royale, I try to change them often, so to see new pics of "home" as ofen as possible.
I have a lil Sand Hill Statue in my living room as well as 8 other U.P. lighthouses, Its been tradition that everytime my fiance Doug and I visit a new lighthouse,we get the statue*if one is avaliable* or a photo to display in our living room -so we have several photos of lighthouses displayed as well that we bought from Copper World while we were up visiting.

We have stayed at Sand Hill a couple of times and they are among our most memorable experiences. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is so relaxing, not to mention the location. We had the room with the balcony and it was nice to look at the stars at night from that vantage point. Bill and Mary are to be applauded for what they have accomplished.

Now I have another place I need to see! I didn't know there was another B&B besides Big Bay! Thanks for sharing Sand Hill.

I noticed the SH Lighthouse is not listed on your home web-page. Do they have an online address?

just to let you know,at work the woman who sits behind me, leaned over and told me she loves my background on my computer, which usually is from a pastycam snap shot, she asked for the www address so she could recieve the pictures, so i guess you dont have to be a yooper to enjoy our land

The lady that sits near me here at work has told me the same thing on several occasions while I'm browsing the PastyCam pics.

My desktop is currently the Kayaker at Sunset. I get a couple comments a day on that one. You gotta love it ;)

i have been talking with some playrights and movie companies regarding a movie, after the success of "a beautiful mind", quite of few of these have shown interest in my movie idea, a movie about george gipp. after reading the book "one for the gipper", by pat chelland, i became fascinated by his story, if anyone outhere especially at still waters, can get me any additional info on george gipp, if you have something to send me like photos or documents letters, etc write me at my email address below, please do not get your hopes up, this is in the very infantile stages, but the interest is really there

Though being raised as a yooper, I have no idea where Sand Hills is. Just does not ring a bell! It does look like a wonderful place to visit, however, as almost all of the pastycam pictures do! Sigh...... :)

Sandhills was the name applied to the light by the Coast Guard or the Government. 5-Mile Point is/was a more common name for it in the Keweenaw. In the days before the extension of the road, a hike along the shore to 5-Mile Point from Eagle River was quite the adventure. Back in the '50's the road to 5-Mile Point from Ahmeek was also a bit of an adventure. It was an abandoned isolated building with an air of mystery about it. It is nice to see it revived.

This was taken on Monday, 7/1 from the tower of the Sand Hills Light. We were guests @ the B &B for 3 nights & it was a lovely stay. Despite extreme heat & unbelievable flies, we very much enjoyed our first visit to the UP, & I was thrilled to see so many of the beautiful lighthouses up there on the Keweenaw. Thanks so much for all the great work you do on this site, I've become QUITE the addict.

I'm sure the exitement is pretty high for you. I'd tell you how lucky you are but I'm sure you already know that :)

My wife and I figure we should be all set to make the move within the next couple years. We're going back next summer to visit the family and will be taking a much closer look at my options then. 'Til then, I'll have to survive on the PastyCam everyday :)

Thanks for the explanation - makes it a lot clearer. There is so much beauty in the U.P., but I don't think I ever appreciated it so much as after leaving, and especially after discovering pasty.com! Now I just sigh everyday as I click on the pictures! :)
