Boy did we sweat yesterday. Nice to find a little shade and a cool breeze off the Lake. Looks like some relief in the forecast with showers this afternoon.

This is another scene from JoAnne Stefanac, on a day trip from Lake Linden to Copper Harbor, by way of Gay-Lac La Belle.

Could this be Brunette Park?

By Carol, too hot in IN on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 - 08:22 am:

I feel cooler just looking at the picture! Thanks!

This is truly my favorite stretch of beach....:)

By finkin - MI on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 - 09:29 am:

I love it!
On our family vaca's back in the 60's we stopped at the turn outs for lunch & potty breaks - none of that McDonald's stuff - we were only supposed to go wading so we wouldn't be all wet when we got back in the car...riiiight!!!

This was always a favorite beach to stop at on a Copper Country Cruise. Thanks for the great picture. Reminds me of days gone by with cousins and family and summers in the CC.

Known as Brunette Park after a guy who lived in Lake Linden but groomed that area until the township folks finally named it after him. Anyone have any further information?

Hi Pasty Central!
Just watched you on WLUC-TV6 and was happy to see you get a little acknowledgement. I have been visiting your site at least once a day for two and a half years now, and consider this to be one of the greatest.
Congratulations for getting recognition from both TV-6 and the Detroit Free Press! What's next, national recognition?

Ahhhh!!! My favorite little park while visting the Keweenaw. Will be sitting on the beach in September enjoying the fall colors and fresh air.

By ALD Mi on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 - 08:00 pm:

This park was named in honor of I think George Brunette who was a major league pitcher.I don't recall what teams he played for nor what years he played.

Hello all. That is a great picture, the more I see on pasty centeral the more I want to be back home. There is one thing that I have noticed in the pictures of the beach areas, dosent matter where they were shot, in the late 1960's there seems to be a heck of a lot more beach than there is now, is this my imagination or are the sands shrinking, i remember it took forever to cross the burning sands and oh how good it felt to stick your toes in LAKE SUPERIOR. wish i was back home. I am so home sick now i have made an offer on a home in calumet.

By John, MI on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 - 09:02 pm:

Not named for George. He spelled his name Brunet.
Records for baseball players past and present are available at this url. He played for a bunch of teams.

Agree with the 'Granny' from up above. Was nice to see Charlie and the pasty makers on the Ch 6 news. Congrats, Charlie, on the Freep mention, too. You had MY vote.

By GC/old Mohawk guy on Thursday, July 18, 2002 - 08:19 am:

If I remember correctly Brunette Park was named after Charlie Brunette who resided in Mohawk during the late 40's and 50's.I believe he was one of Keweenaw County's WWII Vets.

Just want to add a big thank you for all the pictures of "home". Last Sunday I spent hours going through the whole archive (it was too hot here to do much outside). The addition of this feature, the "editorializing", has made it just that much more rewarding. Today's picture of Copper Harbor with not a whisper of Superior wind is breath taking. I'm headed back up for a week of U.P. recharge on Saturday. Thanks for keeping me "plugged in" while I'm away.

Excellent Picture Joanne (Sam)!! Glad we got to visit as much as we did while you were here! Also glad your picture made it on the web. Been hot here, but we can jump into Lake Superior and be cooled off almost instantly. Hope all you guys living away now can make the trip here as stated (or wished). UP has still a very calming, cooling effect on people.

Brunette Park was named after Oliver Brunette,
who lived in the town of Gay. He was the township
supervisor and also owned the bar in town.
The park is also called Betsey Park by some of the
locals

By DE-belleville, mi on Thursday, August 15, 2002 - 10:27 pm:

I just got back from spending my summer 1 mile north of brunette park at our camp, by little betsy river. I remember my dad telling old tales, and beleive the park was named after the guy from gay who also named the bar. The park is one of my and my children's favorite places. the hike froma our cabin to the park via the lake front is beautiful and exciting. They don't have parks like that down here in troll ville....Truly beautiful.
