Next week (July 21-27) we plan to focus on the Lighthouses of our region, and welcome you to send along any shots, whether recent or taken in years past. Just email as a .jpg attachment to photos@pasty.com, and we'll do the rest. It's a part of the Lighthouse Celebration coming to the Keweenaw weekend after next.

A couple of real nice sites, Mary.

Thanx

I'm TERRIBLY EXCITED to see more wonderful lighthouse pix, might even submit one or 2 myself from our recent jaunt up to the Keweenaw. Seeing them here is ALMOST as much fun as seeing them in person (in some cases more, as these WONDERFUL pix ALWAYS show them at their best).

Congratulations! Pasty Central was given a notation of "Other Notables" in the Free Press' Best of Michigan Web Site contest. A very nice notation in today's paper. Congratulations to Charlie and Pasty Central!

By D.A. from the L.P. on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 06:01 pm:

Yes!! We're glad to see the U.P. represented by our favorite!

By Patt, Mid-Michigan on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 08:36 pm:

Other notables only? Sorry but I feel this sight should have been right up on top! You do a great service not only with your work & caring for the elderly at Still Waters but by compiling an ongoing history lesson & appreciation of Michigan's gem, THE UPPER PENINSULA!

Pasty central is number ONE in my book.

By Keith Redford MI on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 08:59 pm:

Pasty Central is ALWAY'S number ONE in my book.
Heading to the UP in two weeks and can't wait!

By Doug Smith, Wixom, MI on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 09:00 pm:

This is by far my favorite site! Not a day goes by that it's not brought up on the computer atleast once. Thank you so much Charlie!!!

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 11:30 pm:

Guess I'll have to go buy a Freep to find out the other sites, 'cause if they are better than this one, they must be truly stupendous!

By Charlie and Edie Hopper in Eagle River on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 - 12:20 am:

Martha -

The list in Monday's Detroit Free Press is a rich compilation of wonderful Michigan websites. Mike Wendland and Heather Newman have done a tremendous job of researching and organizing such a vast body of information. We are honored that Pasty Central was even mentioned among this Who's Who of Michigan 'net addresses.

Edie and I picked up a Free Press tonight and browsed through each of the 40 sites named. What a tour of the two Peninsulas ! We couldn't help but remember when we were newlyweds at University of Michigan, with a morning Detroit Free Press route to make ends meet. For many months, 7 days a week, we got up before the sun and shuttled around a few hundred papers in the Ypsilanti to Wayne area. Even in those days we knew we wanted to move to the U.P., but we still have many fond memories of Southeast Michigan. And here we are, 30 years later, still getting up before the sun. But instead of delivering the Freep, it's doing the daily Pasty Cam.

By the way, thanks to Mike Mehrman for today's lighthouse. Mike - if you read this, leave a message - your email keeps getting bounced back... part of the present Comcast problems they're having in Southeast Mi.?

Before I'm off to bed, here's a little midnight snack, strawberry shortcake from the Chassell festival over the weekend. Thanks to Donn de Yampert for the wealth of pictures he's been sharing with us recently.

Come on up to the U.P.

The strawberry shortcake looks good enough to eat!

Every year in addition to buying a few Pasty calendars, I always buy one that features lighthouses. I am always amazed at how many are from the UP each year. So many in fact that I have often wondered why Pasty.com doesn't publish one of just lighthouses.

Great pictures. They get better every day!

By Carol, IN longing for the UP on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 - 08:31 am:

Great idea, a tribute to lighthouses. But how many WOWs are we allowed??

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 - 09:25 am:

You folks are not helping my waistline! After the discussion a few days ago I went out and bought a box of fudgecicles AND creamcicles (they were on sale---it was meant to be) and now I have to go buy strawberries! I empathize with your paper route, Charlie. My brother had the local Detroit News route, and I was his substitute. It was after school, except Sundays, but getting up to deliver those mammoth Sunday papers when my brother was sick or gone was sure no picnic!

WELL! I see we're trying to make me homesick again, eh? It worked! :)

My fave PastyCam pictures are the ones of the lighthouses. Definitly a cool picture!
P.S.You have so many great pics on PastyCam that I have a hard time deciding which one to use for wallpaper! That's why I change the wallpaper every day. But,anyway, keep taking great pictures!

Hi, thanks. In the two years that have passed since I posted this, it's been changed to http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/h_lhindex.html . If you'd like to add that to the old discussion, please do! -Karen
