Thanks to the many contributors to the Pasty Cam, we've had a real outpouring lately. Sorry that we can't present them all. Here are a couple exceptional sunsets from R.C. Wetton (top) and Lisa Rauvala.

We welcome any pictures which share the beauty, the history, the people and the places of the U.P. - photos@pasty.com

*VIRUS ALERT*
I just received e-mail appearing to be from chopper@pasty.com and it contained a zip file and the subject -TO CLASS- Please do not open the mail or download the zip file. I e-mailed Charlie to see if in fact he sent it to me and as soon as I did I received a virus alert from the post master. Thank God I did not open it! The people sending the files have ways of making it look like the sender is someone you know.

Lyn - Very astute observation. First let me say that you did not receive any virus from me. Back in the spring PastyNET installed a virus blocker. Since that time PastyNET dial-in and wireless members have enjoyed virus-free email, incapable of either sending or receiving email containing any kind of virus.

The latest round of spam as well as virus takes the approach of tacking a random email name in the "From:" field to make you think it's from someone you know. I've been receiving life insurance spam from "martha@pasty.com", and I know our dear Martha has not become an agent. If you look at the source of any email message, you can see the ultimate I.P. address or mail server name from where a spam or virus originates.

An excellent program to "pre-screen" your email before downloading is "MailWasher" available free from www.mailwasher.net - although I don't know if it works with AOL. Wish we had PastyNET in your area! -

- Charlie

Another note about yesterday's Pasty Cam
Village Hall
To all you Yooper readers out there...even my favorite Copper Country Historian Bill P., (unofficial, of course), does anyone know if my dad (Bud Hocking) a local jeweler/watchmaker with a business on 5th Street, ever worked on that clock? I know he'd make house calls to repair Granfather's clocks and cut rings off pregnant women whose hands had swollen with their rings on. Alas, I don't know if he ever worked on that clock. He was appointed to the State Board of Horology (spl. ?) twice by Gov. Romney because of his experience but don't know if he ever got up into the tower to do any work on the clock. One of my fondest memories before he died was having he and mom attend the performance of the "Messiah" at that theater when my twin and I were seniors. We grew up with classical music in our home so it was a joy to perform for them especially (not to mention raising our voices to the only one who matters here on earth and heaven). It wasn't long before he was gone from us...
If anybody has any recollection of who may have worked on the clock, please post or send me an email. My mother died recently so I'm not able to ask her.

Thank you ever so much!!!! Sally (the younger one...)

Sally, I remember only one time that your dad told me he was going to "look at the clock" because there was a problem. I don't know what the result was. Sorry!!

Love the sunsets!!!!!! And special thanks to who ever got a pic of the Da Yooper van/truck. They are my favorite home grown group ( tells y'all how demented I am, LOL!!!) My Grandpa worked in the mines so I know how you feel about finding out if your Dad worked on the clock good luck in finding out.
