Charlie, back at Pasty Central again on Monday, June 10, 2002 - 09:27 am:

A beautiful Sunday afternoon near St. Ignace, on our way up from downstate, a brief stopover before heading on to the Copper Country. Good timing allowed us to drop by the open house of Samantha Litzner, graduating daughter of Rick and Jeanne Litzner.

The guy in the blue "I Love Pasties" hat is the patriarch in the crowd, pastor Wayne Foote, basking in the sunshine, enjoying a little cake and ice cream with all the children and grand children, in-laws and outlaws. Wayne is a legendary pasty salesman in the area, delivering thousands of the tasty meat and potato pies for their church's youth group fund raisers. No wonder he's smiling for the Pasty Cam :o)

Congratulations to all the graduates of the Class of 2002, and to the moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas whose love and encouragement helped make it possible.

By the way, Samantha graduated as Salutatorian of her class. Congratulations Sam!

Browsed through this site recently to see what it was all about. I learned one thing well: Don't mess with the guy in the red jacket . . . he is with Mary. Mary is allied with the WACKO organization. That's Women Allied (for)Common Kindness.Org. It's a very BIG group and powerful. Challenging it is like saying you are against motherhood, apple pie and the 4th of July... A no - no. Anyway, Red Jacket, - - - I wish you well. Stay healthy and work on getting rid of that list.

In case you missed the Sunday Detroit Free Press: vote early and often. This is from the Tech section:

GOT A MICHIGAN FAVORITE?

Detroit Free Press columnists Heather Newman and Mike Wendland will honor Michigan's best web sites July 15 in a special edition...

To be considered, a site must either be produced in Michigan or focus mostly on Michigan places, people or history.

Send your suggestion in a short e-mail to tech@freepress.com
A good chance for Cam-watchers to express their support for pasty.com !

I looked and thought "I know that guy! I know those people!" Hi to all the Footes (Feet--whatever) from "Hart". Janet, is that you in the middle of the top picture?

By Peterson-St. Ignace, MI on Monday, June 10, 2002 - 07:38 pm:

Hi "Hart" Yes, that is me, glad you still recognize me! By the way, my Kathleen graduated with highest honors, too. What a weekend it was. It was great to have Edie & Charlie stop by for the reunion. They should have been at Kathleen's party on Saturday, we served her favorite "Gitche" dessert - strawberry cheesecake!
Only 5 weeks til we head to camp - we can't wait:)
Would love to see you! "Foote"

By Charlie and Edie, ER, MI. on Monday, June 10, 2002 - 09:17 pm:

Yes, congratulations to Kathleen as well, sorry we missed her party (and those strawberry delights). Best wishes as she heads to Cornerstone this Fall.

moving on

Congrats to Kathleen, too!

Toivo, Thanks for posting the web site to vote for favorite Michigan site. I, of course, have voted for Pasty.com, and will vote as many times as they will allow. I love this site. It has become a very important part of my day. They do such a wonderful service for us, they deserve to win, and I have no doubt that they will. Thank you again Toivo, and thanks for your contributions to the site with all of your great maps. You always help put everything in perspective.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 - 05:25 am:

patron, Toivo, jj - Thanks for emailing the Detroit Free Press, but I think they just wanted one email per person, instead of how Toivo made it sound ("vote early and often"). I bet he says that during the primaries, too. No doubt he was trying to make a funny (like he "makes wood")

I looked up the article he was referring to. One of the writers is Heather Newman, who visited us here at Still Waters awhile back, and did a very nice story. She and Mike Wendland will apparently be publishing their list of readers' favorite Michigan websites next month.

Pasty Central owes a lot to the Detroit Free Press for stories several years ago which were re-published in newspapers all over the country. I have a picture hanging on my wall, taken by Free Press photographer Al Kamuda, with residents from Still Waters around the table peeling veggies for the pasties. It was so long ago that this project has outlived most of the folks in the picture. I could tell you stories about each one.

Edie & Charlie - I like the new picture but you could have cropped me out!!! We sure had a great weekend. I'm glad you got "Hart's" attention for me, I haven't heard from her in a while:))) I also like the "St. Ignace" moose - we'll take any advertising we can get. I have it on my notes to show our Boards, they'll think it's great. We're sure anxious to be at camp - remember, Edie, late nights at the dining hall:) See you soon!

Charlie & Edie: It was so neat to see you this weekend and have you be a part of our festivities. I can keep secrets! I have thoroughly enjoyed the pictures and comments on this site.
