This a shot of the conglomerate reefs at the Horseshoe Harbor Nature conservancy site, looking west towards Copper Harbor and the nose of Brockway Mt.

This picture totally transports me right to the most beautiful lake on earth. I can almost smell the water! My toes are aching for a wade in that crisp Lake Superior water.

Although I agree it is the most beautiful lake in the world and I truly miss living in and experiencing life as a yupper, crisp hardly describes the temperature of the water in the lake at this time of year. I look forward to our family visits to the Copper Country and this summer a trip to Isle Royale.

Already into the first week of June, I betcha the water is downright "balmy"!!! :)

Made a "circle tour" around the Keweenaw two years ago by boat. The stretch from Lac la Belle to Copper Harbor was by far the most beautiful, and desolate, on the entire trip. Tried the circle trip again last year, but strong West winds prevented us from rounding the point.

What I've found when visiting the UP is that the lake temperature is colder than any memory. But, I'd jump in without a second thought!

All I can say is that I hate living in WI and seeing that picture doesnt help me out at all. Thanks for the picture that was one of my favorite places when I was living in the Keweenaw.

keeweenawannabe, drive one mile off the pavement at the end of hwy 41, park at the two track going left, walk one mile to the signs then an 1/8 mi down the trail to the lake and your there. Have fun

Dave and Jack get a grip. That lake can be brutally cold and some days, not many, actually pretty warm and enjoyable to swim in. Have a good day.

Keep the beautiful pictures coming...I'm very happy to use them for wallpaper on my computers. I grew up in the area, and will be back to visit this summer. The pictures remind me of the fantastic Lake and living in the UP.

Making our first trip to Copper Harbor next week - can hardly wait! Steve's pictures have me giddy.

To Keweenawannabe: Go to Copper Harbor and take US 41 to the end of the road. Hike in about a mile to the top of the first hill. There's a junction with a road on the left going down hill and north towards The Lake. Hike about another mile the road turns east at the bottom of the hill). A sign at the left indicates the trail down to the Harbor. It and the surrounding acreage is Michigan Nature Conservancy land, most of it given by Mary MacDonald of Calumet/Copper Harbor. Mary's father owned a drugstore in Calumet but made his money by investing in the C&H mining enterprize in Arizona. She earned a PhD at the U. of Chicago and taught there until her retirement. She owned a cottage on the harbor at Copper Harbor & took great pride in her boats--was an excellent sailor, I understand. Close family friends of her (she died a few years ago) told me she negotiated long and hard with the MNC to assure that the lands would remain undeveloped. I've hiked, biked, and skied there a number of times. The stretch of conglomerate is VERY impressive.
