As another month comes to a close, we take time to honor friends who have passed on. You are welcome to add names and notes to this tribute.

Peter Baudino
Russell Erkkila
James Kirkish
Elsie Tuisku
Wesley Crocker
Alice Holombo

Three of these folks were well-known businessmen in the Copper Country. Pete Baudino was a former President of the Chamber of Commerce, a friendly familiar face at his business in Calumet, Ace Hardware. Russell Erkkila owned the popular Erkkila's Auto Parts just down the street. James Kirkish operated the Kaleva Cafe in Hancock in times past, and served on the Houghton County board of commisioners.

Two of these names we'll remember were former residents of Still Waters. Elsie Tuisku was the mother of Keweenaw's own Richard Tuisku (Dick Storm) a familiar voice to many in the region. Wesley Crocker worked in the copper mines, truly a man of the U.P.

Alice Holombo served as a cook at Suomi College for many years. Each of these individuals in their own way contributed to the quality of life in our little part of the world. We remember with gratitude.
