From Michigan's other "Houghton" (Houghton Lake), Robert Goniea is today's guest Pasty Camist. On his way through Munising Bob snapped these scenes from the turnout overlooking Grand Island, and the roadside park across from Scott Falls.

As a displaced 5th generation Youper I cannot tell you with enough words how much I enjoy your prictures and especialy the ones with Lake Superior in them. While I go back home to Marquette as often as I can, I love to get my daily fix of the U.P. Thanks from here at the "tubes" or as some people call it "The Renaissance Center".

I guess they really touch me "prictures" instead of pictures. Oops!

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 09:43 am:

Visited these two spots last summer on my trip to Big Bay Point Lighthouse. It is so beautiful. Hope to get back to the western end of the UP soon.
I hit this website everyday to see the great pictures.

By Kristi, Ann Arbor on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 02:27 pm:

Only 48 more hours until we drive up from Ann Arbor! It will be good to be HOME...even if only for a long weekend!

By Tricia, OH on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 02:33 pm:

For those of you lucky enough to be in the UP, perhaps you can catch this:

"A geomagnetic storm is underway on Thursday, May 23rd, after a coronal mass ejection struck Earth's magnetic field earlier and with greater
energy than anticipated. Sky watchers, especially those at high latitudes, should be alert for auroras after local nightfall on Thursday.
Observers in, e.g., northern Europe, Canada and across the northern tier of US states are favored, but mid-latitude observers might spot something, too, if the storm continues and intensifies."

Oh wow, I cant believe Charlie used my pics! I can die now and know I've lived a full life.:) I'm glad everyone seems to like them.

Hopefully the rain that we're supposed to get down here tonight will not materialize and I get to see the northern lights Tricia talked about.

Wow!! Will be in Christmas on Saturday for a week and a half enjoying this beautiful view. CAN'T WAIT!!! Been dreaming of this since last fall when we left the Keweenaw.

By Duff, Westland on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 07:06 pm:

As a project manager for a computer auditing firm, I've traveled 49 of the 50 states and nothing compares to the beauty that I've left in the Keweenaw. With the Twilight league starting up, I'm really, really missing home now. Good luck this year Yogi!

By Liz, Pinckney on Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 07:58 pm:

We were supposed to be heading up tonight to our cottage near Twin Lakes to replace some very old mattresses. Why is it when you spend a few weeks in heaven you have to sleep on lumpy beds? Anyway, due to a vehicle mishap, we're staying home. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed - as is my 10 year old niece. I guess it will be August (as usual) before I'm there. To add insult to injury my folks head up for their four months of bliss in a couple weeks. Oh, to sit by the lake and relax without a care in the world.

Great photo !! As soon as I seen this my heart raced. We were in this exact place a little less than two years ago. WOW !! We should be up there in the UP in a few months :) HEAVEN.
Liz, Hope all works out with the vehicle.

I love the way the early morning sunshine casts a shadow across the information stand. You can almost feel the refreshing breeze off the Lake. Nice shots Bob.

50 days 'till I'm home! My kids are counting the days! I lived in IN for 12 years and drove by this beach many times (sometimes the snowstorms were so bad you couldn't see you the hood of the car!). It sure beat the heck out of driving through Chicago!!!
