How many times our kids used to walk along these walls, across town on the way to Gitche Gumee. But the weather has ravaged this stately brick landmark, so a massive restoration project is underway.

We'll return to this spot in a couple of weeks to view the results.

It will be a great improvemnet to see that wall re-constructed. Where did the Mail Boxes get relocated to during construction?

The boxes are across the street, just to the right of the picture above.

I took a dozen shots around the building, with one including the mailboxes. However, this morning when I looked on my harddrive, it is clear that I previewed the pictures on the camera chip, and failed to save copies after publishing the shot above. The other 11 pictures were erased :o( That's the third mistake I've made all year.

Here's a trivia question for anyone to answer: In the course of publishing the Pasty Cam in 2002, I've admitted to making 2 other mistakes. One of them was corrected. Can you name those 2 dates? Thanks for the beautiful pictures. I check Pasty Cam each morning and read the interesting comments. If I recall correctly, some fifty years ago the white house next to the courthouse was the Sheriff's home. The jail, which consisted of two cells, was attached to the back of the house.
Am I correct and does that situation still exist today?

Back in those days (early 50's) it was Sheriff Calub Wier, who lived right down the street from us(in Mohawk), then mid 50's it was good ol Ted Rogers (best dang sheriff Keweenaw Co ever had)who lived in the E R house, as a kid I remember visiting the place and Ted would put us in the cells.

I know the answer, I was the one who corrected you. At that time you said that was your second mistake all year. You spelled the word LOOKOUT incorrectly, you had LOOKUOT :) Beware Charlie, I am always looking for mistakes!!! Good day

Oh, I didn't read it all. I see you are looking for two mistakes and the dates. Since I know the one date and not the other I will not say anymore because someone out there will. Lets see how many people pay attention to Charlies MISTAKES :)

Its me again, I do recall the other mistake, but since I don't wear baseball caps I will let someone else try to get it. Charlie, you may want to erase my first entry, it will only make it easier for someone to guess it!!

Well seeing as no one else took the time and thanks for the help Majestic for your hint for the one corrected error. Here are the 2 errors of Charlies for the year. I just cut and pasted the two.

You win the prize for finding my first mistake of the New Year. Asking me to distinguish between cross stitch and needle point is like trying to sort out baking soda and baking powder in the kitchen. I know there must be a difference, but I'd have to brush my teeth with it to find out.

my niece works at the courthouse in eagle river.so she get to see it about everyday.how lucky for all of you to be living up in gods place.the sheriff still lives in the house there doesnt he.eagle river is a nice friendly town.

This site is so interesting and brings back so MANY memories. Talking about the sheriffs now that have lived at the courthouse and jail. Ted Rogers was my uncle's brother and a highlite of our trip 'up home' was to go and see 'Uncle Ted' and for us kids to be locked up in the jail. Have many memories of that! Thanks for the memories Charlie!

Pasty cam it was so good seeing the court house pictures. My uncle was Ted Rogers. Every summer he would lock us kids up in the cells and get to talk to my dad Walter Rogers. We kids had such fun with being put in jail. thanks again for the pictures and memories.

Sounds like "Sheriff Ted" locked up a lot of kids...when ever I fill out a questionaire that asks have you ever been in jail....I have to stop and remember that those times don't count!
