Leaving in a few hours for the UP to bring my son back down state for the summer as this is the last week at Tech. Thank you Pasty Cam for all the joyful, funny & beautiful photos you have shared this year. It made the "empty nest" adjustment easier. And though my son will be home for 3 short months I plan to continue to visit you daily for my fix of Northern beauty. Meanwhile it is time to load the car up with snacks for the long trip (almost 600 miles).

I would like to see a picture of the flower called Trailing Arbuts.I may have it spelled wrong? I remember them up there & they were so pretty, & smelled so sweet. Any info please?

I remember the Fuller Brush man would come to our house in Paavola every so often. Also the Watkins deliveryman. And the Jewel Tea man. Remember those guys? You're right, RCW. It is beautimous. Thank you, Steve. And Charlie.

I remember going down to the Eagle Harbor cemetary with my grandparents in the spring to rake and the ground being covered with arbutus. It was so beautiful and I don't think you ever forget the smell!

Oh, yes, the smell of arbutus I will never forget. My dad picked it at Spread Eagle,WI, when I was a kid and it was legal. :-)

What would an ill Yooper be without Watkins sauve spread in your nose or on your chest. It's a smell that you never forget.

Thank you, Daryl, for a glimpse of my favorite part of the Keweenaw spring. There are wonderful patches of arbutus on the snowmobile trail off of Old County Road behind Laurium that seem heaven-sent after all the months of winter. Here in California, arbutus is a kind of tree, and you can't find anything that looks or smells like ours. While I sure didn't miss the snow (and won't miss the mosquitos and black flies), I do miss the greening of the Yoop. It's a wonder to behold, driving down White Street in Hancock and seeing leaves pop out overnight.

Yes, I remember the Jewel Tea. Jim Perko came to my house in the 70's as the sales person. Maybe you did too R. Somero.
