What a great shot. Now, be patient, I know people have offered directions, but is this close to 6th st in Tamarack-like up the big hill and is this what comes out as dover creek near 4th and 5th streets? Thank you all for your help

Cross the bridge and go right towards Lake Linden. You'll go through a few small towns including Tamarack City. Turn left on 6th Street and go left when the road splits (landmark = old rock crusher on the right). Go up this "trail" a little ways, past one left turnoff and park at the second left turnoff. There will be a gate blocking the trail there. Walk down that trail, take the first left and head follow the trails to the river and the falls.

Egad!!! All those directions. I'm glad my dad (in the 50's) knew where to go on the yearly springtime tour of Ripley Falls, Hungarian Falls, and Douglas Houghton Falls. Summertime was the time to visit the falls farther up the penninsula, and I am thankful to the Pasty Cam site for introducing me to many that I didn't know about--most notably the Tobacco River. Didn't know about it until it was on the Pasty Cam a few weeks ago, and lo and behold, when I went up to visit during Easter vacation, happened upon it on a tour up the Gay-Copper Harbor route. Never too old to learn special things.

To MK - when you said to cross the bridge do you mean the one between Houghton & Hancock? I remember that you can turn right there toward Lake Linden after crossing the bridge. I plan to add this falls to my list of places to see this summer. Thanks.

I think these falls are the ones us kids called the Mama falls, The Daddy falls are farther downstream and MUCH higher. We used to swim at the base of the Mama falls and in the dam. Was a big tree right on the edge of the water that we would jump from. Is that dam still there? When you get off the lift bridge go right, past Ripley, Dollar Bay, Mason 'til you get to that old rock crusher left in Tamarack City. Watch for that road that turns left and goes up the hill. I think there's a sign.

This morning after uploading today's picture, I suddenly got busy with the demands of running an Internet service/Pasty Kitchen/Home for the Elderly, and was unable to post any comments about the lovely ladies holding up the trees. I believe Rose and Shibumi appeared on these pages with a couple of other friends, almost exactly one year ago. And as I recall, it was Taka who took that shot, too.

I'm so grateful for the friends we have come to know through this website, who share their obvious love of the U.P., this land of pure air and pasties. When I woke up one morning in May, six years ago, with the idea for a place called pasty.com, little did I realize the deep connection so many people have with Upper Michigan. Caring for the "behind-the-scenes" of Pasty Central takes a lot of work, but all of you who visit, and comment, and contribute, and appear on these pages make it well worth the effort. I feel like it's not a job, but rather, an adventure.

We are very grateful for you , Charlie, for keeping our memories alive of the UP. I know all who visit this site feel the same, and we really appreciate all of your caring, and time it takes to do all of this. As a Yooper who has to spend 6 mos/yr away from home, I can say that what you do here has actually had a huge impact on my life and my sanity, as I float around in the various oceans of the world for weeks on end. Viewing the day's image and the comments from all over is the one thing that I look forward to every day. Even my shipmates stop by just to see the new image, faithfully posted to my desktop, every day:) God bless you and all the photographers in the field, too!! 4 days and wake-up till I head back home...

Been there too. Also visited Douglas Houghton Falls the same day in April of 1965 with fellow MTU students Mile Rodenberg, Dave Dunn and Jan Bruinooge. We climbed down the snow filled slope down stream and walked to the adit at the base of Douglas Houton Falls and walked in several hundred feet to the terminus. The falls look different today according to the photos. Tried to go the same place with my family in the 1980s and had to to the north side due to fenced-off access.

Charlie, I just think this web-site is the best. It has really made me realize how much I took the Copper Country for granted while growing up there. Leaving the Copper Country when I was only 18, I get to see places that I hadn't been to in years and places that I had never been to.

It is pretty cool too, reading what everyone writes and to feel excitement for them when they talk of going "home" for their vacations. Like Marc, offshore GoM.....I feel excitement for him, knowing he will be home any day now and getting to see his family!
