Looks like spring has shifted to a lower gear as evidenced by or hike to the 'back' side of Lake Of The Clouds. We hadn't expected our climb to be as slippery as it it was, because the recent snow down here in Silver City all melted as it fell. Not so in the highlands. In fact, in one of the pictures the snow was still clinging to the trees in the far hills. I'm impressed with how blue and cold these photos look in the evening light. Hiking in 35° weather presents a bit of a challenge, because you sweat to make it up the hill, then freeze when you linger at the top to enjoy the view. Exploring pal (and my office manager) Sara is ready to hike back to the car quickly.

Was waiting all day for the pic, it was worth it. It makes my morning go easier when I can see a bit of my new home even when I'm not there yet. Will be excited to explore this area at some point, tho my heart will be across the bridge. Great shot... must have been great 1st hand.

Holy Wah! What beautimous pictures! Have never been there yet. Maybe someday. Is that Lake Superior in the distance on the top pic? Thanks, Dan, for showing us that part of our UP.

"that part of our UP"? I thought Lake of the Clouds was in Minn. Gosh, I'm feeling disoriented. Well, I guess I just need some of that cold, clean air. It was 89 degrees here today. Good night, sleep tight...

The pictures are gorgeous, as usual. However, I don't like where the two of you are standing.

Lake of the Clouds is in the Porcupine Mountains, in the Northwest corner of the UP, at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Lake of the Woods is in the Northwest "angle" of Minnesota. Both are gorgeous and part of God's Country.
