At Pasty Central we are blessed to have many friends who take the time to share their photos, their unique window on the world here in the U.P. This is a first for the Pasty Cam, however, as four different views of the same great sunrise came all at once.

Above, Robert Wetton captured both smooth and rugged formations between the lightning strikes. Kraig Mahrley spotted a cloud which looks a whole lot like the Keweenaw Peninsula (amazing!) And Kelly Wenberg shares a silhouette of the treetops and rooftops greeting the irresistible sunrise.

Finally, Kathy Baker shot this rainbow near Calumet Waterworks while dodging the drops, just barely ahead of the rolling thunder.

Thanks to all Pasty Cam contributors for sharing the beauty of this region through your eyes.

That does it. I can't take it anymore. I'm moving back home :)

Beautiful shots, one and all. Thanks Charlie and everybody that contributes to this site. Visiting Pasty.com everyday is what keeps me going away from home. Please, keep up the great job you all do.

I enjoyed the lovely pictures today. And I always appreciate the addition of a map. This is an excellent web site and I always recommend it to my family and friends. Thanks again.

Beautiful as usual. Dad, Mom, Grandma, Grandpa and I lived right across the street from the Calumet Waterworks in the 50's in that little green house. And Grandpa actually worked at the Waterworks for many years (not far to travel to work) before he retired and the big blue building was torn down. Great memories. I had it all; the forest, the lake, visit Grandpa at the pumphouse and the park with the candy stand (Buckies). Compared to the cities, I was one lucky little yooper.

Charlie,
The other day I went back in the archives to 24 April 1998,and saw the two pictures of Gitche Gumee beach house, which is very nice.Would you tell me where it is in the U.P. and where did you find plans for it.My wife and I are looking for a cabin like it to build. She has family in chassell.
And we plan on spending lots of time there .Thank you

Jeff -

There were not any formal plans for the cabin. It was an old beach house (I wish we had some old pictures!) which Gitche Gumee rebuilt because it was grand-fathered in on the dunes as an existing structure. It sort of grew out of the old footprint.

Maybe Mel Jones at Gitche Gumee would have some sketches of the floorplan:

Beautiful pix, all--thanks!

George Hite's Eagle Harbor Web says it's going into hibernation until fall. Is George OK?

By Cousin Jack on Thursday, April 25, 2002 - 01:34 pm:

I think George goes sailing in the summer, Frank. WOW! What a collection of great shots. That Keweenaw cloud is definitely going to find a slot in my Copper Country folder.

Thank you again for all the beautiful pictures!!!
I truly enjoy these every morning...and Toivo, you are a little bundle of interesting information. How do you post those maps? Do you have a map like that of the South Range, Baltic area? I'd love to see a village street map of that part of the UP, to see how it has changed over the years. Thanks!!

That was SUCH an incredible morning. I travel from Lake Linden to Hancock for work, and right prior to walking out around 7am, the sky was yellow. Kinda like tornado weather looking. By the time I got on the other side of Tamarack, right before Mason, I saw the rainbow, and just a bit over, was that incredible red/orange sun coming up over the horizon. Right there on the canal. What a glorious site!! I MEAN GLORIOUS!! It was just a breathtaking site. By the time I got to Dollar Bay, it was raining, and by the time I got to Hancock, the sky was almost black, and it was lightening and just a good old fashioned thunder-boomer.

It honestly was one helluva ride!
