Thursday morning I attended the breakfast meeting of the Keweenaw Industrial Council at the UPPCO building (just out of view on the right side of this picture). On the way out, looking over the Portage Canal from the Houghton side, I realized... the ice was gone! Wished I had my Pasty Cam along to take a shot.

This morning to my surprise Rob Wetton delivered an almost-live view of the canal, from high up on the Quincy side. A good prespective of the retreating ice. Those are the Michigan Tech buildings on the right, and you can see more detail in this week's WOW at the higher resolutions.

Thanks to all of this week's Pasty Camists (Ken Austin, Nancy Nelson, Susan Hooker, Kelly Wenberg, Dan Urbanski, and Rob Wetton) for finding beautiful and interesting images as we leave winter behind, and continue our journey into Spring.

If you check the cams from MTU, you can really see that the ice, indeed, has gone. It's a beautiful shot this morning looking at Mt Ripley. Enjoy. The address is: http://www.admin.mtu.edu/alumni/cams/cam2/cam2set.html}

It's beautiful and how I miss not being able to see it in person. Haven't been home in over 20 years. It's a good needed fix to see sights from home every now and then.

Rob & All Other Photographers: I can't get up north anymore so I visit it virtually. The north country's beauty is marvelous and terrible to behold. Thanks. I'll be sure to check out this site everyday.
