The first photo is probably the "glacier" picture I was taking (in the shot by Susan Hooker on yesterday's Pasty Cam). Lots and lots of ice and snow still out there.

I'm sending another one taken April 2 on the shore across from Fort Wilkins--it was a beautiful day, and there were many odd ice formations.

This is the time of the year I miss the Yoop a lot - hearing and watching the ice on the Lake break up. Grew up in Ironwood and wouldn't miss going out to Little Girl's Point to hear the ice groaning and moaning. Just needed a stiff breeze to set up the windrows. The awesome power of air and water! Not much ice this year, tho.

Those are great.....mounds. Reminds me of one of my old Finnish girlfriends. All kidiing aside they are great photos. I'm originally from Painesdale and do miss the area.

To Nancy Nelson - Do you live on the Harbor? I grew up in the west end of Copper Harbor about a block east of the Marina. My dad, W. Howard Bergh, lived there from the time he was nine in 1922-23. Did you know him?

I'll be coming up to the Harbor on May 4th for the summer. I can't wait! I'm so excited at the thought of being "home" again.

Great pictures. I lived by the Calumet Waterworks in the 1950's and remember those sights and sounds of the big lake. Nothing like in anywhere else. Simply, someplace special.

i have a share of houghton lake purchased in 1922, and i need to find out some history about it. i have tried searching every where i know to search.....any advice?

For starters, you'll have to check a few hundred miles south of the spot shown here. Houghton Lake is in the Lower Peninsula, while Houghton is here at the top of the U.P.
