Today was the women's hockey championship game here in Anchorage, Alaska. In case you missed last week, we followed the battles of the Houghton Huskies, who had hoped to make it to this game... and now have their sights set on next year. By the way, we watched Team Connecticut beat the Buffalo Saints for the title, 4-0.

Somebody sent me this shoebox memory photo last fall, and I can't find the original email. The mountains look like here in Alaska, maybe from the 70's. Hopefully the original contributor will tune in and give us a clue.

Is it a Paddy Wagon or an Ambulance????

By Lowell La Fave , Missouri on Monday, April 8, 2002 - 03:10 am:

I remember seeing a picture of one like this that was in the UP don't remember where but it was used to deliver Mail.
The picture showed it being used in the winter.

I forgot to mention that the "T" model snowmobile was used for rural mail delivery. This doesn't figure, because "rural" there is about straight up.

There were two or three suppliers of the smowmobile conversion for the Model T. There is now a chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America that is devoted to the snowmobile and the have a big run each winter. This year was in the Utica area of New York. This picture is of a 1926 or 27 T. The identity of the conversion would be a guess on my part.

How neat! Doing a bit of searching, one website I found said, "The Model T could even be converted to a snowmobile. The front wheels were moved to the rear axle with the rear wheels, and steel caterpillar treads were attached to the set of double wheels. With the addition of steel sled runners to the front axle, farmers in northern climates had a functional, winter-ready snowmobile."
