As I inched my way across the glazed parking lot at Quincy Mine, it reminded me of when my daughter Becky gave me my first and last skating lesson. It was about 11 years ago, on a clear ice patch of Lake Superior below the dunes in Eagle River. The surface was much like the pictures above - rough and bumpy, extremely slick. I spent most of that session in a horizontal posture, wondering how hockey players are immune to gravity.

My skating career ended that day, but Becky went on to become a hockey player herself. In case you missed it earlier this week, Becky is among the team going to Anchorage, Alaska next month, to represent Michigan Tech in national competition.

Thanks again for all the support we have received for the women's hockey team. Just to tell you why we do not fall under Title IX..
Title IX requires all institutions or programs that receive federal funding to
provide equal opportunities and resources for both males and females (based
on proportion of students and all kinds of other stuff).

Since we are not a varsity program and just a club, The school is not required to give us support. And if the argument is, "Then they
should have a varsity women's hockey team," the reason Tech doesn't have to
is because they are in compliance in terms of proportions of athletes to
students for males and females.

Your segue from the outdoor ice to the indoor ice was very nicely done, Charlie. And Title IX or not, I bet the women's male counterparts there at Tech are just a tiny bit jealous.

wow unreal, i just left there the 5th of march after a weeks vacation. i now know why i never have gone home in so many years in the winter. my feet finally warmed up when i got back to vegas. will be a very long time before i go back in the winter again. stay warm everyone.
