This morning the snow didn't stop the Village boys and their toys.

Yes, Lake Linden was open today.

As a Floridian I have to ask: where do they put the truckloads of snow?

Its finally nice to see snow. Today in the lower peninsula where I spend the winters, it was sunny and 65 degrees. Quite a difference in weather it can be 600 miles away!

W.W., Portage Lake and Canal runs across the peninsula. All along the western end, the ground drops 50-60 feet or more down to the water/ice. The trucks dump down these slopes. It's a hole that even a Keweenaw winter has trouble filling.

sure beats some memories i have in Laurium, when the sidewalks were plowed by a team of horses and a scraper that they pulled. Horses were kept at corner of kearsage and third, now Tony's Pasty shop. Use to pull it to a vacant lot next to Latoski's store on Hecla street. Must have been long days in cleaning up. A vivid memory!

I talked to my mother in Lake Linden and she said they had a hard time opening the door to get outside. Today is March 9th and they have blizzard warnings again at least around Ontonagan. The same time as this storm hit LL it was 64 degrees in Kenosha WI and we had nice weather. Keep it in DA UP. We will see you in the summer.

My dad was one of the people who would be out there in his truck early in the morning to help clear the snow off the streets of Lake Linden, before he began his coal delivery for the day.

Lake Linden will always be home to me. Good memories.

As a former Lake Linden gal, I find the weather here in Ontonagon no better. We live two blocks from Lake Superior and the winds at this time (Saturday, March 9, 8:18 p.m.) are gusting to 60 mph and the snow is building up fast. At 5 a.m. this morning we had thunder, lightening and rain, by noon it was sleet and by 1 p.m. it changed to blowing snow. We say here in Da UP "If you don't like the weather, stick around for 20 minutes and it will change." As you can tell that saying is very true! Sandra (Paquette) Hauswirth

Hei, Mary Lou DeLisle Ettinger, I remember you and your bro Bob. My Mom used to get coal from your dad. We lived in Tamarack at the time. Bob was in my grade. I still remember a model airplane engine that refused to start in Mr. Short's science class. Bob was very disappointed. I don't suppose he's in the LL area anymore? I think My Brother Bob was in your grade. He's in Washington state now.

Today it was 80 in Tucson, AZ, where I choose to live my retirement. I think we have had about 3 hours of snow this winter; but I will never forget the cold, cold days of winter in the UP, long walks to school, angels in the snow, and sledding on the "big hill" (currently Sandy and Jack Kiilunen's yard!) Greetings to all the hardy people who still live there!!

What a great picture. I went to High School in Hancock 1977 - 1979 before moving to Dallas. My kids see about 2 inches of snow (maybe) a year. They love to see your pictures too. Your pictures do bring back memories to me; sledding, skiing, football games in the snow, etc... I love to keep up with the snowfall measure, and enjoy your pictures so much. Thanks!

I wonder if that is Chris or Pat Lajimodere driving the snoblower? Growing up in Hubbell it was a real thrill when we were real young to watch them cut the banks down with the snowblowers from the County. I use to live across from the first Loading Zone right on the main highway, and when those "winger" blows went by, we had 6ft banks of fresh snow to move. Dinky and I would be talking about the snow as we began our daily,(usually 2 or 3 times a day) task.
Here in Kimberly Wi., they call 3 to 5 inches of snow a storm. Go figure

Hello Jerry M.,down here in Mad Town, WI.they think 1 to 2'' is a snow storm,didn't we have to wish for at least 8 inches or more so we could get a day off from school. I had to bring back pictures of the snow so they could see what a real storm was! I miss Da old ZONE and Soup very very much,will talk again.

That's my daddy driving the dump truck!!! This is my first winter away from the UP. I'm a freshman at Grand Valley State University. We get snow here in Grand Rapids, but it melts within a few days. It's just not the same...

That's my husband driving the dump truck and of course I was snowed in that day and couldn't get my vehicle out to go to work. Sue Haralson came and gave me a ride. She always goes above and beyond the call of duty. We LOVE you, Sue.

this picture reminds me of my mom Lynette Gregoire when she used to get up really early in the morning and have to walk before these wonderful guys would come out with their trucks. She would be all geared up in clothes and a face mask and her warm army jacket. I remember her telling me she would walk in the middle of the road because no one would go outside in this weather. Mom you will be missed. I love you!
