Shoebox Memories don't necessarily have to be from the mining era... The last time we visited this vantage point, it was before we started the "Wallpaper of the Week" feature. Frequently emails ask the location of the Great Lakes space picture, so why not make it a WOW ? WOW is right! I downloaded the 1200x1600 pic and even at that magnification you would never guess there is a Chicago or Milwaukee or Detroit down there.

Isn't there a second picture that zooms in on the U.P.? From the looks of this one it's just the lower peninsula. I'd like to see that one too (if possible of course).

if you go to bored.com and click on terraserver, you can get satelite photos that you can zoom on with accuracy even in the up area

From the Earth from Space Site click on Earth's Water Habitats and then scroll to lakes and you will find a picture of Marquette Harbor from space. very cool.

Can't see much of Lake Superior, 'eh? Wrong angle from their location I guess. But it is a nice pic. "Beam me up, Scotty. Can't see any signs of intelligent life from here."

Traverse bay seems to be bigger than I remember it.....but we live in the most beautiful state.

This picture brings together both my love for Space and that of the Lakes. What more could a Limey ask for!!!

This is about as close to Chicago as I ever want to get!

Hey! I can almost see the old homestead in Dowagiac; and our middle homesite in Plainfield, IL.

The old expression...You can do it also applies here as my son builds these satellites for Boeing in Los Angeles and has been to launches in Russia, China, Cape Kennedy and French Guyana..Son had time to play all sports in a large Class B high school (Gibralter)and still spent many hours studying.
