Seems like just last week we started the Pasty Cam... but here we are, 4 years later, still in search of a glimpse of the U.P. Thanks to the Kangas Kids for the snow angels. It's a cold job, but somebody's got to do it.

One of my favorites from the early days of the Pasty Cam was a similar scene on the Eagle River Bridge when Toivo and Eino let their hair down and did the snow angel boogie.

Boys will be boys

I never miss a day without going into the Pasty Cam. Discovered it 4 years ago when I got my computer and Internet. Thank you for all your time and effort put into this fantastic website.

One of my all time favorites is the stop action shot of the camp counsellor being splashed, 7/11/98

This has only been my third year with a computer so I missed out on a lot of beautiful shots. I keep a list of the ones I like as Wallpaper - but there are so many I couldn't pick just one as my favorite so I will mention a few: The Breakers - date 10/07/99, Superior Seagulls 07/27/99, Sunrise Gull Rock 09/03/00, and Red Barn with wig of snow 01/16/01. And many, many more! Never miss a day without checking the pasty cam!

Hey guys! Enjoy that snow for your cousins too! It has been in the 80's here in Arizona. The kids would love to see snow someday.

By loveitall! on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 03:45 am:

A favorite !?! How can anyone pick just one?!! I barely whittled my faves down to under 20, and that was tough! Anything in or around Copper Harbor, any Lake Superior shots, sunrises, sunsets, Auroras and snow as well! Shoebox memories are great, too. How about a list: 7/21/98; 3/5/99; 11/27/99; 11/30/99; 10/8/00; 11/20/00; 12/3/00; 12/22/00; 1/4/01; 1/10/01; 1/12/01; 1/31/01; 2/15/01; 7/5/01; 7/16/01; 1/14/02; what's next?!

One of may favorite pictures is the Phoenix Church,25 Dec 00, which I passed daily going to and from the Air Force Station nearly 50 years ago. Keep up the good work. I would like to see some pictures of the logging camps and sawmills of the early 20th century near Skanee and L'Anse in Baraga County.

Great job lovitall!! I agree with everyone!

By Kathleen O'Brien in MD on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 12:47 pm:

Awhile back you displayed a picture of Esray Park in the summer from one of the gazebos. I don't know if the view was north or south. But it was beautiful! When the computer guys gave me new software they lost the wallpaper setting of that image I kept on for months! I can't find it- are you hiding it somewhere? I'd like to see it back up on the site so I can resave it to my screen. Nothing says a Keweenaw summer like sitting at Esray Park watching the sun set and no mosquitos buggin' ya! Thanks!

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 02:44 pm:

Kathleen -

Back in May of '99 we had this shot in the gazeebo, with a wider view in the big picture. This was before we had discussion pages with each day's shot.

Congratulations on 4 great years of Pasty.com. I never miss a day checking the pasty cam. Hope there's many more years to come.

By loveitall! on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 03:58 pm:

Thank you so much, pasty-cam, for the awesome job! And quick, too. Somehow, I messed up. The dates of 3/5/99, 11/27/99, 11/30/99 and 10/8/00 were supposed to be 2/5/99, 10/27/99, 10/30/99 and 9/17/00. That's what I get for staying up so late past my bedtime! But, y'know, I can't go to bed and expect to sleep as well without the daily dose of pasty-cam!!

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 04:34 pm:

loveitall,

Ok, dates of the slide show shots have been changed. We just realized, we could probably make a slide show using all 1,462 days, and use big pictures as well. At 5 seconds per picture, almost 3,000 shots, it would take over 4 hours!

By Pining Yooper in TrollLand on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 04:45 pm:

OH SURE....A FEW FAVORITES. Right.

Does "Rose in Channahon IL" realize she can still view all pictures from Time#1 by using the handy year-calendar on the opening Pasty Cam page?

No favorites can be listed, just thankful the pictures are there to be treasured at leisure.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS ANNIVERSARY!(*!*)

By Toivo from Toivola on Saturday, March 2, 2002 - 05:19 pm:

I use that handy-dandy calendar feature, too, but more often I just go to google and enter "pasty" and the word I'm lookin' for. Like if I wanted to find sunrise rock, I just do this:

Thank you Mr. Google
...and the first link takes me to this:

The pasty cam is great! Thanks! I look at it every
day. My favorites are those taken on Bumbletown
Hill.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Sunday, March 3, 2002 - 07:12 am:

Michelle -

A few years ago my son Jonathan used to work the occasional night shift at Still Waters in Calumet. One July morning he was headed home to Eagle River, passing Bumbletown at sunrise. The sight he captured is one of my own all-time favorites in the Pasty Cam archives.

What great pictures! Have you ever thought of putting them together in a book and publishing them?

By Frances,Ga. on Sunday, March 3, 2002 - 12:33 pm:

Melissa, I have thought it would be great to have a book of them also.Nice Coffee table item!!

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Monday, March 4, 2002 - 04:16 am:

Happy Anniversay, Pasty Cam, and thank you! I, too, check out the Pasty Cam everyday, but unlike my fellow viewers, I try to wait until the end of my work day, making it a treat for getting through another boring work session (I copyedit scientific journals), something beautiful, funny or memorable to lower the stress level. But sometimes I cheat and look early, or just go back to some of my favorites, like 9/9/01 or 9/24/01 or 10/23/01.

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Monday, March 4, 2002 - 04:18 am:

Oops, that 9/19/01, not 9/9/01. Sorry.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Monday, March 4, 2002 - 06:35 am:

OK, Martha, here's a short slide show of those choices, in "Big Picture" format... and you only need to click once, then sit back and watch, until you are returned to this page... ready? CLICK HERE

Dear Charlie-

Thank you so much for putting up that picture of Esray Park for me. What a guy! You sure know how to bring sunshine into someone's heart! I can't tell you how much this means to me. Thanks so much.

By Rich G. Greenwood SC on Saturday, April 20, 2002 - 11:53 pm:

Hi. Whenever it gets too hot in South Carolina, I can take a trip back to the UP thanks to your great Pasty Cam pictures. Thank you for taking me back to my roots.

By Trish R., Washington on Friday, August 1, 2003 - 12:17 pm:

This website brings back so many memories
of days spent in the UP as a child. Both my
parents grew up there (Houghton and
Skanee) and my family spent many happy
childhood summers there... my grandparents'
house and garden on College Ave, the
Pinecone Shop on Sheldon, Bete Gris,
Copper Harbor, eating pasties at Esrey Park,
the Chassell General Store, Schwenn's (sp)
strawberry ice cream, my other grandparents'
farm in Skanee, that pink museum of oddities
near Mohawk, agate picking, and so much
more...
If anyone could kindly send me some
hollyhock seeds from the back alleyways of
Houghton, please contact me.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Trish

p.s.
I thought I'd never eat another thimbleberry
until I saw them growing wild on this island I
live on in the Pacific Northwest. Now, if I could
only find a pasty...

By Troll, MI on Friday, August 1, 2003 - 01:16 pm:

Trish, Washington:
