The precip this week started as rain, kind of messy and melty. (Makes for some ugly snow banks.) Then the temps fell into the teens and our world turned white again. Yes, it was ugly here. Our beautiful UP looks different (yet beautiful in its own way) under an inch of sand and mud! What a mess! I, for one, am glad to see some fresh snow again!

Amazing to see that singular grapefruit still hanging on to the branch right up into February. Turned a little brown, though.

I believe that must be an apple. Good luck growing grapefruit in the U.P. Oh, well. I like apples better anyway! And I like the Copper Country even better than apples!

Ya know...driving along the canal on the way to work this morning, from Lake Linden to Hancock..all I could think was how incredibly beautiful this place is! The sky was just starting to turn light, the fresh snow cover..covered, and it was beautiful!

I said it before and I'll say it again...we are truly BLESSED to live here! :-)

It looks just like the apples on a tree in the back yard here in Cornell. The wind shakes 'em down and the deer and turkeys eat um up. The wind sure was mean here today. Could feel it right thru the 'long johns'. But we sure are blessed to live UP here! :o) (o:

Have seen scenes like many times as a kid up there. Was born and raised around Rock but left that country in 1953 and have only been back a few times since. Still miss it. Enjoy the Pictures and the Messages from the different people. A transplanted YUPPER in Missouri

We just learned about this site from a friend we had dinner with tonight. Mentioned that our father was born in Rock and though she's from the UP she'd never heard of Rock. She just called and couldn't believe the messages she saw were about Rock! Anyway... our father was Henry Raymond from a family of 15 kids. He was born in 1908 and left Rock in 1925 and settled in Muskegon. Does anyone remember this family?

Hi Alicia, Yes I was at the Sakkinen Reunion last
summer, but my husband, A J is the Sakkinen.

P.S. I don't remember that name from Rock. My Dad's family settled there when my Dad was about 4
he was born in 1909 in Austin, MI near Gwinn.

Looking for any info. on a A.J. Sakkinen and/or
Anna Illikainen. Later both went to Detroit. I believe they both were from Paynesville, Mich.
