I always have to chuckle when driving past this establishment. To let people know if they're open, they have a sign out front that says "OPEN"....of course! But when they're closed....it says "SHUT"!! I love that! :)

It's a pretty remote area, up here in the Copper Country, as demonstrated by the familiar landmark above. This has made it difficult at times to arrange express delivery of pasties from our home base in Calumet. If you had been to the pasty order page this week, you saw a note about our ongoing efforts to provide timely and affordable delivery - and some bumps along the way.

We'll keep trying... Never know who might show up with your next order of pasties from the Keweenaw :o)

Here's to red-earth shingle brick facades and the abrupt announcement of another Yukon's End, just north of a now forgotten local hamlet*, stomach growling for one of those wild venison burgers in that Harbor Restaurant at the End of the Univer-ver-verse.

Could anyone tell me if this is the store that has the great birds-eye spoons? When I use this great mixing spoon I am always reminded of the U.P. If this is the shop I also remember a nice wood-burning stove that felt great on a cool fall day.

How long has the "Last Place On Earth" been at that location? Seems to me I remember passing it just north of Calumet daily nearly fifty years ago.

Jean. Yes, it is the store with the birds-eye spoons. When I was a kid, that building was Edna's tavern. My neighbor used to play shuffle board there.

I remember going into that place as a kid with my mother on vacation 30+ years ago. She always would chuckle and tell me that we're going to find what we're looking for at "The Last Place on Earth" and she was right.

yes went you get near that place you know your home..isnt there a lumber yard just down the road from there..

hi michelle yup your house is still up. we haven't had too much snow this year only 137" to date and 18" on the ground . its a beautiful day in the keweenaw today, sunny and 25,.,. hows your mom and dad. has Erika got her computer up and running yet? tell everyone we said hi :)

I love that building also and actually visited it last year. for 30 years i had gone to the copper country with my family and as an adult. and had never been in there. but now i have and it was very charming. my concern as i drove to cooper harbor was i saw a new ice cream shop out there. and id like to say i would hate to see any tourist traps on the side of the road between phoenix and copper harbor. so i propose no building crap north of phoenix.

ive been coming up there sonce i was an infant, 50 years now and the fuuny thing is ive never seen it open, bad timing i guess. but why is the old sportsman bar that became the country house, now the log cabin rest. closed in the winter? you wouls think the snow mobilers would jam that place

Saw that big red building and a flood of memories came rushing back. My parents were from calumet and I remember growing up as we would head to our cabin in Eagle River/Eagle Harbor, my mother always telling me we were past the last place on earth. Nothing more to see. But she was always wrong. Lake Superior is almost just around the corner and that to me was the last place on earth. Thanks for the memories and bringing a smile to my face. May god bless my parents for such wonderful memories. I love you mom and dad, always rest in peace....

Never thought of it as the Last place on earth, but rather the only place on earth that led to some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Of course now it leads to mom and dads house so now it's the best place on earth :)
