I took advantage of some soft and bright light to photograph my neighborhood waterfall, the Greenwoods on the Big Iron River. Of course, I was compelled to turn the trip into an adventure, creeping slowly out to the very edge of the ice to get right into the falls. Fortunately, the only casualty was a lost lens cap. And I got a few nice shot despite my frozen fingers.

Thanks for the effort! I live in Mississippi and there is no "clear water" due to the type of soil here and I miss seeing the "clear" beauty of water. On the other hand,I can go down to the coast and watch the "big pike"also known as Dolphins, swim, which can appease me somewhat.Keep clicking!!!!!!Yankee in the South

Seeing this gives full assurance that God's touch is ours' for the viewing. What a beautiful and lovely tribute to your State of Michigan. I've spent many wonderful times on my snowmobile in your territory. You have a real corner on beauty!

By John, Oregon on Thursday, February 14, 2002 - 02:49 am:

Not to gripe or anything, but that's not exactly clear water. (in response to the mississippian, and no offense meant to mississippi, michigan, water, or any party whatsoever)

By Frank C, NE Illinois on Thursday, February 14, 2002 - 01:04 pm:

John, that coloration in the water is tannin: "Sources include the bark of oak, hemlock, chestnut, and mangrove; the leaves of certain sumacs; and plant galls. Tannin is also present in tea, coffee, and walnuts."
