Recently taken very near Dan's Point west of Copper Harbor. The wind was really ripping that morning. I could hardly keep warm or tears out of my eyes.

At first glance this looked like a whale to me. :) It has absolutely spectacular color. Lake Superior always has that though doesn't it? Thanks and God Bless you all.

Isn't Mother Nature incredible? What amazing, spectacular phenomena she comes up with!

Nice Shot, Ben! Also like to thank your entire family for many years of enjoying the Sunset Cruises on the Queen! We will be back up to God's Country this summer! You should be a regular contributer to the Pasty Cam pictures, you do great work! Of course you have one of the most beautiful areas to work on!

Its AMAZING, took my breath away, How I wish I could be back in "Gods Country" once again.
Seems every person who is origanally from the U.P. and has moved onto new locations is always longing for "HOME" and looking at this picture , you can see why I am among the "long lost yoopers longing for home" God Bless You All!

Here in the South Pacific the water is 80 degrees, and here I am tuning in to the webcam of my homeland...even the tropics have nothing on the beauty of the big lake! How I miss my home!!

By Nancy Nelson on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 - 09:25 pm:

Wow, and wow!!! I love the lake when it is in that mood, ane every time I have visited in the past few years it has been as calm as a millpond--(which is also special for that huge body of water) I remember as a child driving out to the Hancock side Coast Guard station, sitting in the car way up on top of the dunes, and the waves splashing up to the windshield. I miss seeing Lake Superior as only it can behave in stormy weather.

By molson,, twin cites mn. on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 - 09:32 pm:

There is one thing about superior in winter you dont see in pictures of the north or south artic oceans. it really looks COLD and menicing with its dark grayish color. many a winter I would walk along its bed rock shores in eagle habor. When we go home to the U.P. seeing lake superior in duluth is like seeing home.

By Jeff, IN on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 03:32 pm:

By Bonnie Erkkila Hartman on Thursday, January 17, 2002 - 08:16 pm:

Ben - Was that picture taken on the last day the Queen came home for the winter from the Island?
Ha! Greetings from a former Copper Harbor girl, now living in Florida .

By Greta, Ca on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 05:51 pm:

I agree with Molson from Twin Cities. When we make our annual migration to the UP, once we round the top of the hill on I-35 coming into Duluth/Superior and see Lake Superior, we cheer, and are overwhelmed with excitment and a peaceful feeling of being home again. Of course, we drive alot farther to get to this point than Molson has to. From here, the drive is so beautiful, and we can't wait to pick up some pasties before we get to our place. Love it! Miss it!
