So often we receive emails about the daily sights on the Pasty Cam... Mainly memories of vacations or growing up in the Copper Country. This view happens to be from Copper Harbor - where a lot of pleasant memories have been made for our family. This particular shot was taken after a leisurely round of golf up at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge.

You will now be able to leave a note with any picture, sharing some of your memories of the U.P. with the others who travel these pages on a regular basis. Now in its third year, the Pasty Cam will eventually have an interactive page with each picture. This will also enable us to assemble an index, so that you can look up landmarks, lighthouses, signs, people, plants and animals... ANYTHING that has appeared on this daily feature.

So, now... What do YOU remember about Copper Harbor?

I used to work at the Isle Royale Dining Room in the summer. Does anyone know if it still exists?

My folks were from Calumet, but I grew up in Detroit. The best part of our annual trek "up home" was the day we would go to Copper Harbor. The Frontier Store was then the Frontier Bar. We kids would order Nesbit's Orange Soda while my dad and uncle cooled off with a Bosch beer.
Does anyone else remember the nickelodeon that used to be in the Frontier? We plunked a lot of change into it!

I've been going to Copper Harbor for 30 years now, since I was 10. Even fell in Lake Superior that first year, reaching out for a rock by the lighthouse! Talked my husband into camping there for our honeymoon 21 years ago, and have been bringing the kids with since 1983. Also spent many hours at the dump, waiting for the bears. The Frontier Country Store was and still is the best place to buy stick candy! I even have a house picked out just in case I win the lotto! Oh well, I can dream.

I worked in Copper Harbor two summers and I know exactly where the "slot" machine is. It's at Frontier Country Store, where I worked from 1973 to 1974. I often got requests for change so the kids could use the machine. I particularly remember one little kid who would come in everyday on his vacation to get a red licorice rope. At the end of his trip, I purchased six ropes for him to have on his trip home. He wrote me the cutest little note thanking me. I still have that note. I still stop into the Frontier when we visit every summer. My mother is now employed there. It was one of the best stores in Copper Harbor.

We now live in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and try to visit every summer.

When I was an early-teen, my brother and his wife took me with them on a trip to Copper Harbor. (We are trolls from Holland, Mi.) At that time the dump was still open and a good place to see bears. So one rainy evening, we sat in our car, waiting and waiting. It was so humid, the windows kept fogging up, which made it difficult to see. All of a sudden we heard a growl. The hairs stiffened on our necks and arms. We heard the growl again, then a third time. We thought for sure we were going to see a bear! Finally we managed to get the windows cleared enough so that we could see--the big black dog in the car sitting next to ours!! I never did see my Keweenaw bear until two years ago while we were looking for property to build and retire on. Hopefully in another 9-12 years, there will still be some around for us to wonder at when we can finally live there permanently!

I was the Boat Captain of the "Copper Harbor Duck" for its short run thru Lake Fanny Hooe. That was one of the most memorable times of my life...I remember driving the Duck, full of passengers thru Copper Harbor past the park where the band, "Whitewater" was playing...fine memories of great days, lost forever in time...

Is Nesbit soda still available?Or is it a memory from yesteryear? If so where?
