Cross-stitch by Florida

By Florida on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 10:15 pm:

Here is a scanned picture of the cross stitch I did of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. When I was told about Pasty Cam last spring it was one of the first pictures of the C.C. that I saw. I really love your sight and visit it at least once a day in the morning and sometimes again in the afternoon if I go on line.

In real life

great job on your work of art. nice to see this lighthouse art.

Florida-- if you have only seen the Keweenaw on the Pasty Cam, you have a real treat waiting for you if you visit it in person. We have been going up there for over 30 years and just can't get enough of it! The Pasty Cam keeps us going until we can get up there again.

I would like to know where Florida got her cross-stich pattern, I would love to do one of the lighthouse.
Texas
Ps, I really enjoy the Pasty Cam site and read it every day.I grew up in Laurium and long for the Coppper Country.

Great job Florida! And funny too. I found the Pasty Cam site when looking for a picture of the Quincy Mine Shaft to make a quilted wall-hanging.
Actually, I had not expected to find a picture of it on the Internet, but thought, well what the hay. The search engine I was using brought me right to the Quincy Mine Shaft site, which then led me to Pasty Central.

That was a couple of years ago. Never made the wall-hanging, but look at Pasty Cam every day!

Hi Florida! Your art work is beautiful! I really admire your talent. Please continue to share your work when you can! -Janie-

EMH ... I think you can get lighthouse cross-stitch kits (there's one of Copper Harbor, too) at the Laughing Loon. Check with them, or the Einerli. If they don't have them, bet they can tell you where to get one.

Wow! Nice art work Florida, even the shadows of the trees can be seen.

By EMH Texas on Sunday, December 17, 2000 - 04:28 pm:

Thanks Lesley, I believe the Laughing Loon is located in Copper Harbor but I can't place where the Einerli is. EMH

Nice work, Florida! I don't want to know how hard that must have been to do. My folks had a large picture of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse hanging in our kitchen when we grew up and we vacation cottaged right across from it nearly every summer in the 1950's and 60's for at least a week or two. There is something indefinable about this lighthouse that has made it special to so many different people over the years and your beautiful version of it is more evidence of this.

By Florida on Monday, December 18, 2000 - 08:39 am:

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. I actually made the pattern myself on my computer using the picture shown as my guide. I have seen the lighthouse many times. I was born and raised in Lake Linden and worked in Copper Habor for two summers after graduation from high school. I have also made the pattern for the Mendota Light House (which I am not too excited with) and the Gull Island at Sunrise which I haven't stitched yet. I love Lighhouses and Michigan Lighthouses make me feel at home.
Thanks, Charlie for putting it on. I had just meant to show it to you since you asked but it is very exciting seeing my work on the Pasty Cam, which is the best site on the internet.

Florida,
Did you use a cross-stitch program, or graph it out yourself? Print on graph paper?? I had bought a kit several years ago of the Quincy Mine Shaft. Never got it framed- didn't match my southwestern living room. Now changing the living room- Have several Pasty.com pics framed along with paintings of the u.p. Will fit in great now!

Florida,
I also visit the Pasty Cam every day. Am a
life-long visitor/summer resident to the Keweenaw
and love lighthouses too. I belong to a group
called the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers
Association (gllka.com). Every summer we have a
Lake Superior conference. Three years ago it was
in the Keweenaw at the Mountain Lodge, the Eagle
Harbor Light and Sandhills Light. (Next summer the
conference will be in Duluth)

Dear Florida,
I like to cross stitch, too. What do you think about doing a pattern of the lighthouse at Whitefish Point?
Have you checked out the site crosstitchcollectibles.com?
Jane

By Florida on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 - 08:28 am:

Jane,
I dodn't think I've ever seen a picture of the lighthouse at Whitefish Point. I haven't checked out the site butI sure will.

By Richard Creed, Winston-Salem, NC on Monday, January 8, 2001 - 08:21 pm:

Splendid! When my wife, Marie, and I, snow-starved residents of the all-but-snowless South, make one of our all too infrequent visits to the U.P. in winter, the lighthouse and the Eagle Harbor Inn are mandatory stops. The memories will remain with us always, and your rendition of the lighthouse has a permanent place in my stash of wallpaper. Thank you.

I have a question. I'm looking for a cross stich patter that was said to be out of print! I know what it says and looks like. Is there anyway I could find it, or does someone know of anyone I can talk to? It's called 'Our Mother'.

By Frank, St. Charles IL on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 10:33 am:

Linds, see if this is what you are thinking of (scroll down to question #32 near the bottom). I also found this graphic. Close?
